Drive until you find a school of fish, and then fish them.

Crappie fishing at this time of year is DYNAMITE on many lakes, and URL should be no exception. Hopefully you'll get a decent calm day to get out in the open and find some schools of fish.

Use your electronics, shouldn't be hard to find some Crappies.

Last I heard they were catching some fish by the cribbs. Bring your GPS along, there should be maps with cordanence on them at any one of the local bait shops or resorts
in Waskish.

This time of year the crappies are around the cribs in big schools. Try anywhere from 1/2 mile around the cribs. The schools of crappies swim around the cribs all the time. Try to pick a less windy day.
Good luck.

Locating schools of suspended fish right now isnt the problem. Figuring out how to get them to bite is.

You said "suspended fish", not to be a smart ass, but are you sure the suspended signals on your graph are Crappies? If they don't bite within 2 minutes, move along.

Look for different depth signals, and fish hugging the bottom.

Think back to winter...Number one was, fish didn't bite til dusk most of the time. And when they bit, they just suddenly popped out of nowhere. They also were aggresive, and only a few feet or more under the ice.

Guessing that the Crappies will be "belly in the mud" during the day. That does not however mean that they will not feed.

Control drift or troll with a 1/16 or 1/8 marabou jig and cover a little water.

Everyone says there is no breakline, but the key is to find a change. Mud to gravel, etc.

Depth change me be gradual, but even if it changes a foot, I have found areas in the winter that change a foot in depth in a short piece of time.

Cribs are all well and good, but the population far exceeds the number of crib areas on the lake.

If you take on a "walleye" attitude and stay out a little later, fish "no man's land" areas after dark with a simple slip bobber and glow jig approach a measly 4-8 feet down over the deeper water.

Just some things to try...Start a launch service on that lake and someone would have it made.

Thanks for all the tips. Coco says bring that Mazda over again Kelly she wants to sit on the deck and laugh while it rolls across the yard toward the lake with you stumbling after it. You out there Russ.

Halad:

Maybe you should just leave your dog home next time you go fishing. It kind of sounds like he might be giving you some bad advice.

Halad,
That was just a test to see if Coco could really drive. I thought that it she could really drive then she would jump in the truck and stop it before it went into the lake. grin.gif She didn't even move but just sat there talking about the weather so I have my doubts about whether or not she can drive.

Oh no my surface tension is acting up again. The dog thanks you for the bones they were her favorite. When Kelly parks that Mazda all the critters in the area come. Plus the flies.

Yep Halad, eight glorious days of draggin' buckets in the brush. The work is hard, but the pay sure is low. HeHeHe The best thing about helping other guys get their bears is that I get to wear bug spray!!! You take care and I'll see you in a couple weeks.

The new sour mash bear bait I've been brewing is working good. smile.gif The only problem I can see is that now in addition to coons robbing the bait I'll have ice fishermen there also. grin.gif You didn't think SATCHMO was coming to hunt did you???? He's coming to fight the bears for the sour mash. mad.gif hehehehehe

that's a unique twist on brewing mash - 'round here they just call them "stills".
