Crappies still around?

I am hoping to get up to URL to do some softwater crappy fishing next weekend. Are the fish still around? And where have they been hitting?

We were out earlier in the year but the wind really put fishing on stand still. Caught walleyes but no crappies.

Appreciate any info any would care to pass on

Hey Scott,

I was just up there last Wednesday and Thursday with two other guys that have fished it earlier this spring. We did okay but it wasn't fantastic. Most of the crappies we caught were in the 10 - 11 inch range and they were still in 5 to 6 feet of water right outside the mouth of the river. We did catch a lot right by the bridge past hillman's camp ground jigging right next to the bridge pillars. It was almost better there then on the lake. For every crappie we caught we probably caught 5 walleye's but it wasn't fast and furious like they experienced earlier. The wind wasn't bad either and the evening bite was dead when it was usually strong. I would venture out to the crib's if you knew where they were, we didn't. Good luck.

There is also a fifth set of cribs that were placed outside of Morts on the southside this past April

Thanks for the info!! I have no idea where the cribs are either. Anyone care to divulge that info?

The only one that's marked that I know of is the third set outside of Westwinds. Each end is marked, one with a white ball buoy and the other end a standard hazard buoy

Sorry Jiggle~It is a VERY finely placed set of cribs that were added outside of Morts this past April. Done by professional crib layers..lets see there was Larry, Curly, Moe, I mean Mike, Jiggle & Paul LOL
