Report 03/30 - 04/02

Got up there Tuesday, the launch at Vidas had just been cleaned. Fished 3 hours, caught 10-15, with the largest being 27.75". Wednesday morning was better, no trouble catching your 2 eaters, probably boated 30-40 fish. Largest of the day was 30". Thursday the bite was good in the morning, with a couple of 26 & 25" fish, plus a few 22"+. Smaller fish seemed to be missing, but most everyone around us had the net flying at one point or another. All of a sudden around 11:00 AM they just shut off, 2 long drifts with nothing, and no one around us doing any better. Decided to switch to a bottom bouncer - stickbait combo, and creep along against the current. We boated a 16", 17", lost a 17", a 22", 25", 26" 28 1/2", 29", and a 30 1/2"! No one around us seemed to be catching anything jigging, I think the mud and the speed of the drift made it too tough for the girls to find the jig. Creeping along against current seemed to keep the bait in the strike zone longer, and they just hammered it! Thanks for all the patience around the log-cabin guys, I was definitely going against the flow of all the other boats. Even the crank bite died down in the early afternoon, so we decided to head home on Friday morning. Good luck, and remember to change things up when it seems things have died off ... it worked for me! As a side note, my buddy bitched about changing tactics, he was a RR rookie, and was having a blast catching eyes on jigs. One pass later with the cranks and he shut-up!
