A buddy and I headed up to the Rainy on the 31st to try our luck. We fished from about 9 am to 4 pm. We landed at Frontier and went to the right about a mile and to the left of the landing about 3 miles. We had only a couple bites and caught one snake northern. We saw an estimated 75 boats, give or take a few and saw only 4 fish caught. Are the fish up that far yet? Did anyone else fish out of Frontier landing? I'm not sure if we'll make it up again for 'eyes, but may have to come up and try to tangle with a sturgeon or two. We did try sturgeon fishing while we ate lunch, down to the left of the landing, by the first farm on the MN side. Is this a good area for that stretch of river? We just anchored on the upside of a hole and casted out gobs of crawlers on the bottom. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Fished yesterday out of Frontier. It was slow but we got some fish. We were about 1 mile down river from the landing. Had to use drift sock to slow down but wqe managed a few nice ones. Definately slow for the Rainy. Rainbows were our bait of choice.

How was the clarity? I've heard similar reports, it doesn't sound like its going or it hasn't been great yet.

ounds like spinners work a little better for some than jigs the flash of a blade helps in murky waters.

Clarity wasn't too bad but it did get a little worse with all the rain and the small streams opened. I would not cancel any plans, things change fast up there.

I fished on the 31st also. We put in at Birchdale and fished all the way to about 4 or 5 miles past Frontier. We had our best luck by the first farm downstream from Frontier. We caught a 21 and a 23.5 there plus a few under 19. We ended up with only about 10 for the day + one sturgeon about 25", came right to the boat, no fight, first sturgeon I have ever caught that didn't fight at least a little bit. Shiners seemed to work best for us.

A freind and I went to Rainy the 30th did not fish until the 31st. Was on the water by 7:30 am started to catch eyes right away.
Althuogh the first 2 or 3 were only about 13 inches or so the day and the size pick up. We ended up with 41 eyes the biggest was about 7 pounds or so. The majority were 18-24". We landed one sturgen about 36in and I cought 2 suckers at about 21inc. Gold 5/8oz jig head worked the best in the morning. Then red seemed to pull them in the rest of the day. There wasnt that much boat traffic the water was on the muddy side. On the first we went out at 7:00am had to wait at the landing for about 15 min or so. There was alot more boats on the water. We tried are same jigs as the day before and didnt have the same luck. So we tried differt colors, size, lures didnt matter for us. Did see some fish coming up to other boats. Just not as many. We only landed 2 both under 18inc not to bad though. Talked to some guys who thought that the water was more muddy. I didnt noitice maybe.
