Hello every one! I just moved into the area and am looking forward to doing lots of fishing. Have done lots of walleye fishing on Mille Lacs and lake around the St. Cloud area.

I do have a 14' fishing boat w/ 15hp and a trolling motor, depth finder, gps ect. Also a canoe. I would love an opprotunity to get on the big water, but am limited by boat size. I have also been fishing in the river(Rainy) and catching lots of cigars w/ the biggest being 13". Help me out someone?

First ? is what part of the river are you fishing? Or are you on the lake. Remember in this river the walleyes relate to current. Stick to fishing in current changes ,eddies, and find a couple holes. Stick to a jig and minnow ( experimentin with colors doesn't hurt.) Find some fish and stick with that spot for a while... Good Luck

hogeye,
take your boat and fish in Ranier by the dam.
you should get plenty there this time of year, if you struggle, park your boat and head into woody's for a few and he or someone there will help you out. the size of your boat won't matter on that part of the lake, it's how you use it!
good luck

Thanks for the replies!
I did fish over the weekend and managed to catch a few 18" eyes. Trolling early morning w/ crankbaits near Riverview. Small cigars still plentiful, but the cranks seem to bring in some nicer fish. Also caught about 5 snakes and a nice 20" smallmouth.

Hogeye,

I too am new to the area, I just moved up here this summer from St. Cloud area. I have been putting in Baudette and fishing about a mile and a half or so each way. So far the walleyes havn't been to cooperative with me, but the gators have been fun to catch.

Hey Mepps ,
Do you do any hunting? Been thinking about getting out and doing some bow hunting. I don't think grouse will be worth a hoot. Did make it out on the river again, but only managed to catch a few small ones. Gators are always in plenty. Been thinking of buying a Canadian license and heading up towards Miles Bay to hit some crappies. Let me know if you ever feel like getting out.
