They can navigate the river on US and Ontario sides, just as any angler out there. There are areas that require you to do so, otherwise your replacing a lower unit.

They can do whatever they want. And they do, they are big a**holes. We fish leagal and allways have dual liscenses and they still always have somthing to bit** about. so look out and make sure you have a canadian fishing liscence.

I have been going fishing up there for 11 years in the spring and fall.

Can an Ontario Conservation Officer cross the
invisible line in the Rainy and enter Minnesota?

Can they follow a boat that they think was fishing in Ontario into MN and ticket them? Can you navigate the Ontario side of the river even if you only have a MN license?

The problem is- there is no way to know if you are in canadian waters or MN waters, There is no line down the river and a lot of the times it goes across halfway.

Be safe and get both liscences

I just got back. We had a great trip. I and whoever is with have done everything to be legal everywhere, we got checked and had no hassle at all. My belief is if you dont give any reason to be an "a**hole", they will and always have just done thier job. The cooler we are with all involved the less likely to shut us down in coming years.Sandee thanks for your reports we timed our trip pretty well for my Dads first time to the spring fishing.

Thanks BDR - glad we could help. Our groups are having mixed reports today. Some say good, some say slow. Some say as soon as the sun came out it slowed down, others said it improved.

Looks like more lake walleyes are being spotted in the river. I hear they are marking a lot of fish too.
