Mississippi fishing

Recommended Posts

I've fished the 'sippi near the dam by the college a couple times and I've caught nothing. Would it be wise to try the deeper water that's just before the dam? I've also tried the junction where the Sauk river joins the Mississippi and caught a couple 4# smallies and a few large carp. Is there anywhere in St. Cloud where I can hook into a northern, walleye, or even a muskie on the Mississippi? Thanks for any help!

If you go up river near Royalton, you can catch muskies there. My dad and I caught 2 and lost a 3rd during the bass tournament up there on Aug 1st. There looked to be a lot of places to fish from shore near the blanchard dam.

Actually, this spring right towards walleye opener, we did quite well on the SCSU side of the river below the dam. I attend SCSU and fish there quite often. Well we were fishing for crappies down there we began to pick up some walleyes (12-18") and a few smallies (although they were not is season). I think the best bet is to fish right on the current break for both the walleyes and smallies. I had a friend who ventured to the other side of the river and did quite well on catfish. Although I haven't been below the dam since the Middle of may, I am assuming the bite will turn on again this fall. However, I will have moved on to Archery season.

Also late Sept. until Nov. casting rapalas or a jig/minnow combo below the St. Cloud dam will get plenty of eyes as well. Some real dandies too. We've done best early morning or evening into the night.
