The Chain

Well, I hit the Chain up this past Thursday. Wow, my dad and I had an excellent day. We started around 12pm, and fished until about 4pm. We ended up with 8 eyes, all keepers. But we lost a few due to our low hook percentage rate. We were using gold spinner rigs with a 1oz bottom bouncer tipped with a leech. I hope you all are having some good luck too.

Not sure on the sunfish bite. But I would try Beacker if you want to catch some panfish. I pretty much go for Carp, Walleye, and Catfish.

Well I'm gonna try and give the chain a shot for the first time during open water season, where would be a good place to go and find cats? I want to get the kids into some decent open water fishing.

We were on the chain on 5/23 and nailed about 20 kittys in 3 hours. We were catching them in 17 - 20 feet of water. When we went shallower 9 - 14 feet is when we started hitting some eyes, but that was 2 1/2 weeks ago so who knows now. We were catching the cats on a jig tipped with a leech! My father got about a 7 lber, the rest were in the 1 - 4 lb range.

I was on the chain on Sunday and ran into some kitties. Nothing big, all about 2-4 lbs. They were hanging out anywhere from 5-10ft deep right off the shore breaks. I was using leeches on bobbers and lindy rigs. Just find some trees hanging in the water, they will be there. Good Luck.

They were a little on the small side. But nothing under 11". It's good to see that there are a bunch of smaller ones. That's always a good thing for the future.
