I was solo on the Shoe yesterday. The 3 "keepers" which were not much bigger that 14" this trip, were caught in the early morning. I proceeded with about 30 10-13 inchers, a Smallie, and One Cat throughout the morning. I was using Shiners, Leeches, and Fatheads. I was working rocky points off the main bay in Horeshoe. Opening weekend I managed lots of little ones again but also managed a few at and over the 21" mark out in 20 feet of water that all went back.

I haven't had a chance to fish the evening yet with all heavy rain threats, but the water level looks back up now. Once the weather stabilizes I'm sure the bigger 'eyes will show up.

Mykal
Which bay are you referring to when you say the main bay? I agree the bigger eyes should be picking up pretty quick. I will be out there myself this week so maybe I could say hello if I knew which boat you were. thanks

Mykal, glad to see you hit the shoe. With the ugly weather forecast I went local in the morning as I did not wish to be hours from home and hit bad weather. Had some success. My neibor introduced me to the St.Croix where the walleye/sauger/pike bite is outstanding. There is another lake about 30 minutes from here by forest lake that is plump full of the 16-20" eater eyes. They are great places to hit after work. I am going out on Tuesday or Thurday to one of these and will give you the report.

Fished the lake for the first time and didn't do too good for the walleyes. Started fishing about 5:00pm for about 3 hours and did manage 2 about 12 inches. We did get into a mess of cats though (about 20 of them) So that kept our interest for the 3 hours. mostly all about 2 or 3 lbs but one about 7 lbs.

Mykal, I would like to go this weekend with you. Kristen's parents are bringing the boats up to the cabin and her father hurt himeself and may need help. I will know the details later this week. Ah yes the LOW trip I can not wait. For seven strait days nothing to think about accept were to get the next walleye....At work they said they "need" me to fly down to one of the remote office to assist in transitioning functions here to St. Paul. My response was simple. You get me 50 hours a week and on Saturday mornings. I "will" me at LOW for this week and business will have to wait. I am only one little man and priorities are Family, Friends, Fishing, Faith, and then work. I am tired of them trying to take over my life and work six days a week....

Was out on Long lake Saturday the 22. My 12 year old caught a 26 in and a few smaller walleyes. All I caught was a crappie. Go figure. Saw another boat pull in 6 really nice fish that 2 should have gone back. Also had to explain to my two boys that fishing with two lines a piece, these two guys were doing was wrong. one lighted bobber one not. Weather and wind got bad so we left. Hope to go back this weekend.

Rocky,
I will probably be there Saturday unless I head to Mille. I drive a Black Dodge Dakota Quad and fish in a Black Lund Angler SS. What are you in?
I found the fish shallow in the early morning like 6-8 feet and as the morning wore on I was out to 19 feet. Shiners were best, but leeches and fatheads worked just fine. They were concentrated in certain spots, I had to search a bit.

Mr Pike. Good luck and if I don't see you this weekend then I will see you in 2 weeks for our LOW trip!
