Yeah it's aboout 2 hours depending where you put in at. I used to make the trip over there for the MN opener. The lake was practicly deserted and the fishing was good.

You guys are right on....I grew up in the Red Wing area and know the river reeaal well and it's a 2 hour drive from my house in Annandale. With this in mind, I would rather drive 2.5 hours to Big Stone...less traffic, less hassle and the fishing is as good or better. Oh yeah, I still fish the Red Wing area though, just not as often. There are some things I just can't give up! Nav

I was thinking of heading to Bigstone on opener to beat the crowds. Any suggestions on where to start and what presentations to use are greatly appreciated. I have chased the winged critters in this area, but have never wet a line!

From what I've heard the south end has been pretty productive the past week. A lot will depend on the weather in regards to location. Cloudly and windy will usually push them up shallow. Last I heard the water was still very clear. But a spring algae bloom is common on the lake so that could very well change.

I'd bring minnows, night crawlers and leeches. A jig and minnow combo has worked well for me.

Good Luck!
