Horeshoe chain info needed...

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, my little bass club is gonna fish Horseshoe chain this June. Any comments or advise you have would be appreciated.

Also, any avid bass fisherman who know this lake and want to get together and prefish let me know and we'll get together.

that time of the year most of the lakes should be clear because in the summer the lakes get a algae bloom pretty good. that time off the year i like becker lake wich is the first lake or backwater to the nw of horeshoe lake up the river a little ways. there are plenty of cuts throughtout the chain that should have better water temps. i also like schnieder lake because it is one of the only lakes that has a decent weedline in it during the summer. most of the lakes have few weeds with only becker, schnieder, cedar island in spots, and the lake that is furthest south having some what of a weeline. that time off the year should be pretty good because a lot of the lakes are shallow. good luck. what is the club?

The Horseshoe chain has some excellent Bass fishing. Its a river system that has around 7 lakes connected to it. The water calrity in the system varies, you will find clear to murky water in alot of the lakes with stained to dark water in the main river.

My top picks for Bass are Bolfing Schneider and Becker but also dont count out the river itself. I have had good success on cranks ( fat raps, wiggle warts etc) in the main river basin. On the lakes spinnerbaits plastics,rattle-traps and a jig and a plastic craw are the lures of choice for me. If you are a serious flipper then the chain is for you. There area alot of logs and trees laying in the water that hold alot of Bass.

Feel free to email me with any questions regarding the chain. I grew up in the area and have fished it for around 25 yrs, so I feel I am pretty in tune with it.
