Its located in the crossroads shopping mall in St cloud MN. As soon as I get back from my snow goose trip I plan on hitting it. A store of this size will hopefully lead to some price competion with the other outdoor stores in the area. It could lead to some good deals I hope we'll see.

I got a chance to see the store almost everyday for the past 3 months. smile.gif I work for Coke and there are perks for the job. But I will say the store is amazing. I can't wait to buy my next rod and reel setup from them. smile.gif Great prices too.

I haven't seen everything at Sportsmen's.

I'm glad you can go to Sheel's without going into the mall and fighting the knuckleheads.

I can't wait to check it out. I hope the parking at that side of the mall is not as insane as the rest of it. Finding a spot on the weekend is difficult to say the least.

I was there for about 45 minutes today, and wow, the place is huge. They have a lot more room to move around, and everything is not packed in so tight.

There home furnishings up on the 2nd floor I thought was really nice.

capmorgan,
It's still located at the mall. It's kind of near Marshall Fields&JC Penny. It's pretty big now, so I doubt you would miss it.

I know that they had to hire quite a few extra employees due to its new size, they had a great team in the gun department I hope that they are still there! I've always had good service in the past. Hopefully I'll get there tomorrow grin.gif

i would have to say that overall it is better than cabela's the place is like it's own mall with all the different outdoors shops in one building. i was up on the second floor for about an hour or so on thursday night, really cool stuff, i was displeased a little with the knowledge of there staff but what can i expect on opening night, next time i'm there i'll just go straight to THE MAN...... C. R.

living in a town with such a great store...........awsome.

having a girlfreind that works there..............priceless!!!!!!.

I was hoping the fishing department would have been larger with more selection. I went in looking for some new lures and left with nothing. It will be interesting to see how long they offer the live bait, I can't imagine that doing very well but maybe I'm wrong. The gun section was very impressive and lots of nice mounts to look at. I would love to be the person who caught that 4lb 12oz world record sunfish, I can only imagine the fight a sunny that size would have.

Went to Scheel's this afternoon. Overall, I liked what I saw (on the second floor). I would say they have much more walleye type stuff than Bass or Muskie. Which is OK with me. Some of the pricing looked very competitive. I will be buying some of my gear there in the future. I actually liked the way things were organized. I only took a quick walk through the hunting dept., but that looked good too. If nothing else, will have to find time to look in their Collector Guns room.

well since they opened on thursday i've been there 4 times. got a great deal on some rainwear, and bought about $40 in misc jigs for my rainy trip. i thing i'm gonna become a scheels bum. i got to talking with ron up in the fishing department........he is one great guy, i talked to him for an hour or better. i feel alot more comfortable knowing now that i can go in there and deal with someone i know....and that actually does the things i'm asking about.

What i like most about this scheels and every scheels I have been to is the staff. It is the only store of this kind I have been to where every employee greets you, asks how you are doing etc. It is very easy to get assistance with what ever you need. when i was in college up in Fargo my wife worked at scheels and she said they actually got in trouble if they did not attempt to greet every one who walked by them. for me it is worth driving from minneapolis to St. cloud just for the quality service. It good to hear Scheels is still competitive and a pleasure to do business with. I'll have to stop in this new store when I'm in the area. I can recall spending significant bucks at the Scheels in Mankato as a kid...

I really think the new Scheels is great....having the additional space is great because now there is room for decoys, more guns, and all those new mounts. Also, their sales personnel is leaps and bounds ahead of their competitors....they are friendly and helpful and don't seem phony...and I like how all of the different sports / sections are separated. Gander mountain is the next best place, and they are always having a good sale of some type. I just can't say enough good things about these two stores. On the other hand, Sportsman's Warehouse is just plain awful. Their selection is poor because it is spread all around, the sales staff are typically rude and unhelpful, and their prices are consistently higher than Gander Mountains and usually higher than Scheels.

I think the new Scheels is o.k.
The decor is great to look at but that's not why I good shopping. They had a large selection of rods but when it came down to lures and terminal tackle I found it to be lacking and the Fly Fishing supplies poor at best. I think Mills Fleet sets the bar for lures and Sportsmen's for Fly Fishing supplies.

I agree with the Mills Fleet Comment. They have tons of tackle at hard to beat prices.. Bottom line is the more stores we have of this kind, the better for us. Competition does wonders for prices, service and selection. No one should have a problem finding the items we want with the stores around. If not there is always the internet. Cabelas, Bass Pro shop.. Good luck all......

hey the scheels is a good store but to sartell angler the selection and prices? not even close gander and sportsman's, they are far better in that aspect and the prices "lower",not even close I have saved more at the other two by far. unfriendly staff, at sportsman's and gander the staff has always been curtious and nice. these are my experiences with those two stores. sorry if you have had a bad experience but dealing with mall rats is enough for me to go someplace else, not to mention "can I help you" every two seconds." that is my two cents. everyone have a good day and good fishing.

Have they had a Grand Opening sale or anything yet? I'm expecting a spring/fishing sale soon from them. Need to pick up a couple reels plus misc. items and would like to check out the store.

I kind of got the impression that the new scheels is yuppy-ish. I still like fleet for selection and value. I suppose all of the stores have merit at some point for all of us. They don't all carry the same exact stuff.... which is good. I have to say scheels is the first sports-persons store that I have seen with a coffee shop inside! Not saying that's good or bad, just different.

I agree smallie_hawgin...it is a little on the yuppie side. I never meant that the prices were great at Scheels...I just commented on their friendly demeanor and their aesthetics...gander is probably my favorite, as well as Mills Fleet. Sportsmens Warehouse ... S.A

**Edit** Feel free to elaborate on why you don't shop there. But personal attacks and those towards business's won't be tolerated. Especially when encouraging others to do the same without explanation

I agree with both sartell riverat and S.A> Scheels is a nice story but i am overwhelmed when am in there, i spend all my time lookin and not much time buyin. Its kinda scary when like every 2.3 seconds another salespersons asks you for assistance. Dont get me wrong I like to be helped but it seems as though they have a few to many workers. Sportsmans=$*%^@ and i dont plan on givin them any business. I have been there 10+ times and have yet to see a sale or any kind, just awful. My .02.

here are a few of my favorites:   1) cube breast meat, marinate in Italian dressing over night, wrap in bacon, grill    2) cube breast meat, cover with shore lunch or any other breading batter of your choice, flour/egg wash etc if you like that, fry and enjoy just like little chicken nuggets   3) cube breast meat, season with salt, pepper, garlic, quickly fry in pan serve over rice, can also look up  South Dakota version of chislic similar to this   4) cream of something soup, crock pot with what ever you want lol   5) pheasant and dumpling soup   6) this one is a little bit of work but good stuff: https://fromfieldtoplate.com/2016/08/16/sesame-pheasant-garden-veggie-stir-fry/   I tend to save all my legs and prepare them together. For example this last weekend I shot 2 birds on Sat and 3 on Sunday for a total of 10 legs. Put them all in a crock pot, with beefbroth and a can or 2 of dr pepper to make sure they are call covered. cook on low until tender. pull all tendons etc out and shred any meat you can salvage. add  barbeque sauce and serve on a bun and toppings of your choice. will be very similar to pulled pork.   I hate wasting legs, and I hate even more seeing others not utilize them and just breast out birds and leave the legs to rot     My team of GSP's have been putting the hurt on birds this year here in SD. pleasantly surprised with numbers after the brutal winter we had. probably had my best year of sharptail hunting that I can ever recall in my lifetime also.

read Jeff Sundins most recent report........even he's pretty leary about the state of current ice conditions..........

You can prepare/cook them pretty much any way you make chicken.  The taste and texture is very similar.  I'm sure I could do what Moose posted above with his grouse and the finished product would be almost identical.   My favorite recipe is a slow cook in a cast iron pot.  That takes some time because it requires cooking at low temperature for at least 90 minutes.  The finished product is very good.   Being that its so warm out, I might try grilling some here too.   I also give a few away each season.  My possession limit is triple the daily bag limit so its something I have to be mindful of before I go hunting again.

Walked out about half a mile on Tuesday with max safety (life jacket, ice picks, long rope to house, and chisel).  Ice was very solid and I measured 7½" today (Thursday).  The first 1/8 mile was nice dark ice that was large chunks frozen together, but quite smooth.  Then there was about 40 feet of very jagged white ice.  Had to lift the portable over the points of ice otherwise it would hang up on them.  Then the next mile of ice was rough white ice as shown in the picture with the ice scoop.  At the small island before Birch Island the ice appears to be dark (and probably smoother).  Several snowmobiles and ATVs were running out as far as Birch Island but it was easy walking for me.   Fishing got better each day.  Rainbow and chubs were about equal.  Couldn't catch a fish on pike suckers.  Best fish was the 27" (8#-3oz) hog shown in the picture.  Had a hard time getting her head into the hole.  Picture quality is bad because I wanted to release her quickly to avoid further stress.  Good luck out there and be careful on the ice.

Measured 6" good clear ice today about 50 yards off the north side of Moccasin point. Walked out for a little ice fishing. Remember ice conditions vary around the lake, depending on sun exposure and current in channels/narrows. Be cautious, safe and verify your local ice conditions.  Directly off the Moccasin point boat landing, in the channel ice conditions looked poor. Picture is from Northside of Moccasin point I the early morning  when ice looks the best

Finished the 23 waterfowl season over Thanksgiving. Got to hunt two days of the long weekend. Saw a modest number of ducks, and harvested mallards, bluebills, and ringnecks as the water began freezing over during the weekend. One of our tougher seasons with different migration patterns probably due to unusual weather patterns with constant fluctuating between well above average temps for a period and then almost instantly well below temps before going well above again, and so forth. Still will cherish the memories with family and friends and relive the sights and sounds of out on the water during fall. Will be posting ice fishing reports in the fishing report clubs as soon as the ice is safe. Happy Holidays everyone.

Thanks for sharing this exciting career opportunity with Orvis in the Minneapolis area. It's great to see companies looking for passionate individuals to join their team, especially in the world of fly fishing.
