For the bluegills try on the south end, there ar two bays with a point protruding between them. It is here I would start my search, go in front of this point there is a big cabbage flat that will hold the gills, try shallow to deep. If you dont' have luck there try the cabbage bar out from the access.

The way I find certain weed areas is through pre-ice scouting. I fish this lake alot in the summer and no where these cabbage beds are. I lock in these areas in the summer on my GPS and use them for my winter trips. You can learn alot by cruising areas and fishing areas in the summer, and better yet by dropping a underwater camera and seeing how the fish relate to the weeds and what weeds are in the area.

Its hard to say what depth the gills will be in alot depends on the weather etc, for a general reference I would start in the weeds fishing see if you have success if not search areas until you find a area of transition from weeds to sand. The gills might be relating to the weeds or the edge, it all depends. Start at about 8 ft and work your way out.

The gills on alot of lakes are spooky right now with the lack of snow cover, it's been a early morning and right before dark bite on many lakes.

Icehawk-

Thanks alot for the information, the south end right off the point is where you would head if you didnt know exactly where to go on this lake like me...? or do you mean sit on either side of it? How have you been doing out there recently? I heard they had been doing good. Glow Jigs, I had best luck with the Genz Bug that glows yellow on panfish awhile ago, any different ideas?

Try the whole area in front you will see the area. As far as jig selection I really don't have a real go to lure, I have some that are favorites like the flirty girty's, moon glows, etc. I have hundreds of jigs, I will switch until I find something they want. Alot of what I use depends on the aggressiveness of the fish, if they are going a heavy jig will get me down to the school faster. If there non aggressive I like to go to rat finkee's, shrimpo's etc something with a slower fall. The key is finding fish first than finding a presentation that works.

Do you have a vexilar and you find some fish and your not sure of what they are and then just pop a few holes or what, or do you go to around the same area, pop some holes and put up a house and wait for the fish to come or what? cause i have a vex and its sometimes hard to find the fish and know what they are and it takes alot of time to drill holes and drop down my underwater camera....

What I like to do is drill a bunch of holes covering different depths and parts of a structure. Then I fish for a while and move if nothing is going to another set of holes I've already drilled.

As far as what kinda fish they are, it's hard to tell for sure unless you get one to bite or use a camera.
