Big Pine report

Recommended Posts

98prosport

Just thought I'd take a minute to report our fall trip to BP. Fished Sat, Sun, Mon. Three of us boated over 60 eyes. About 8 were too big for consideration. Had a great time. I think the bite will continue for a while.
My suggestion is S L O W !!!! Jigs w/ red tails and let it sit on the bottom moving it ever so gently. 14 to 16 produced well, along with 18 to 20. but look around. They are puttin' on the feedbag.

LOL, that and you have to be riding in the boat with 98Prosport!!! smile.gif

I can attest to this report, as I watched (note, not participated in catching) these guys slay the eyes this weekend. They were on a tremendous bite.. We took some fish as well all the way from 12"-24", but a bit slower.

It was great meeting you guys up there, hope to see you again next fall!!

As a matter of fact, my next door neighbor is a louie e. I went out with him and another guy from his work last sat and we did very well again, for the short time we were out. Fishing with that louie guy was pure _ell, do you have to work with him all day?(hehehehe)
He's a pretty good egg really!
I'd fish with him again.

brian-
yeah that louie is a great guy, sure knows how to catch fish to. he has really got me into fishing since i started going with him earlier this spring. the guy has got alot of knowledge about many of the lakes around dl and beyond. he's the only guy from around here that i've got a chance to fish with.
he mentioned to me that you were thinking of heading out there again this saturday. if it wouldn't be too much trouble i would like to come along, if you've got room in your boat.
just let me know somehow, probably thru this and i could always get your number from louie tomorrow.
it'd be great to meet a fellow FMer from around the area!

Hey Loren, that sounds good. We should maybe hook up and go Sat if the weather is good enough. Where do you draw the line on weather? I can handle cold, but the high wind and rain take most of the fun out of it. Let's take a look at the forcast and chat some more. OK?
I will be home all day Friday.

brian-
hey i gave louie my numbers so hopefully you get/got them. i have to work at 4:00 friday, but give me a ring if you get a chance early friday afternoon. if he didn't give you my number i am in the phonebook. the weather looks a little cool saturday but i think it might be okay, as long as it doesn't rain i think we'll be ok.
hope to talk to you so we can figure out where to meet up.

I haven't done it too much to this point, still trying to find my way around. All I have done so far is go from my place at Wabanica Bay to Pitt and then took the Pitt grade 20 miles in or so.  I've also covered all of the dirt roads around there.

You bet!  And I know it! 😁

I dislike posting a question here, but after fishing this lake since ice out at least once a week I'm struggling to find the Crappie. Have only caught one and it was spawned out. Checked all my favorite spring spots and found nothing. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Lots of gills and more largemouth than ever, but no crappies.

Your lucky you got use of yours so quickly.  Mine literally didn't get used for about 12 years even though I brought it with every time I went after big fish.

Well, we netted a half dozen fish with the new net and I think I like it.  The biggest was a 45 and everything worked out real nice. Bringing the fish in was easy and then laying the net handle across the gun wale of the boat was enough to keep the fish and bag in the water and in pretty straight shape to work with.  Even with my 40 that needed the hooks cut off, the fish was completely in the water the whole time.  The only time any were out of the water was for a quick measure and photos.  No twisted gnarled mesh to deal with for the most part either. It proved to be worth the space!

Beautiful day to be on the water, but such a struggle catching fish.  Marking a lot of fish and just as many bait balls or some other underwater clouds that the game fish were keying in on.  Ended up C&R a lot of really plump Sunnies ( thinking they haven't spawned yet?),  2 Northerns, several pieces of timber, 2 slot Walleyes, and a great sunburn. All within 12 hrs of fishing.

I'll try to make it. Does 8 am work? Might go for other species too for fun.

Another good a.m bite for me and my wife today , ( Thurs ) on Big bay . Nice fish again . Our limit of keeps , also put two back . 8:00 - noon. . . .  Hey Cliff , I’m gonna try to send you a p m .

Was in Big Bay once again today and saw a few more Mayfly today than Tuesday . I agree things are just kinda getting going with the hatch , and also believe that these bugs will last until well after the 4th of July . With that being said , I also believe that fishing should hold up for awhile until the fish become so gorged out that things could come to a screeching halt later into this whole bug period .

Need to change their name to "juneflys"
