169 north to Highway 2 in Grand Rapids. 2 west to Highway 46 in Deer River. Highway 46 northwest to Northhome. Jog west about ten miles and pick up Highway 72 north to Baudette. Highway 11 west to Warroad. Cross border and continue on 313 to Sprague, turn right and follow signs...

We are also going up to the angle. Our group is going up there to open up fort saint charles which is on Magnusion island. We will be staying there from thurs to sunday. Hopefully the fishing will be as good as it was last year at this same time. We always fish by oak island. Hopefully there isnt very much work to do at the fort so we can go fishing. Fishing advice: Little Joe Spinner with night crawlers in 15-20 ft. Troll at a very slow speed. Stop by the fort and check it out and sign the book and we are more than happy to have you look.
Ben D.

Tully-
Actually we are going the exact same time you are. Coming back Sunday. We are staying up by Monument Bay on Enchanted Island. The reports have been getting a little better after a dismal start. I am hoping the timing is just right for this trip - the weather seems to be more stable - and the fishing has to pick up sometime! Good luck and maybe we will cross paths up there. By the way - what route are you taking? - I had some good replies here - and more than a few choices of routes - looking for the fastest-safest way I guess.

Hoffer,
We live in East Grand Forks so we are just taking 75 up to 11 to Roseau. 310 into Canada. Then 308 and as someone else said, follow the signs from there.
We usually fish around Flag Island and usually head into Tug Channel for a day.
We will have 3 boats 8 guys.
Good luck, maybe we will run into you up there.
Tully

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
