Hi Fishing folks. Just wanted to say if your looking for good quality smallies and nice walleye, Baudette Bay was great this past Saturday. We fished the bay all day (all plastics, no live bait) Caught 1 walleye just over 4 pounds and 3 at 17 inches. The walleye were caught in about 4 foot of water.
We also caught 7 nice smallies with the biggest being just over 4 pounds! We even cought some way up the creek in VERY Shallow water.
Again these were all caught on soft plastics and spinner baits. If we would have used live bait, we would have cought many more I'm sure. Of course we caught or share of pike through out the day too. The biggest was only about 7 pounds (so nothing too big).

------------------
CatMan

Nice report! You think outside the box
and I am glad it pays off for you so often.
You riverrat, catfish chasers are some of the
best all around fishers on most bodys of waters
We bounced around out in front of Zipple
Bay for around 3 hours Saturday afternoon
and kept 9 Walleyes and Saugers for 4 people.
We tossed back 5 tiny mites.
Others who were there all day did pretty
well with some pretty nice fish in the mix.
I was waiting for the 5:30 bite to start
and at about 5:15 the wind picked up another
5 miles an hour and I was forced to call
on the "15 minute rule". If you dont catch
fish in the next 15 minutes you quit, and
we did.
Weather was too crappy the rest of the weekend.
------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
