My son and I would like to pitch a tent and camp up on the North end of Vermilion. There used to be campsites up there where you could just pitch a tent and camp. Are they still there? Do you need to reserve them? We'd like to get up around Mead Island. Can we expect decent walleye action in that part of the lake in the next ten days or should we be on the main part of the lake?

The campsites are on a first come first serve basis, there are no permits...

There are also good campsites in Smarts bay and on the east end of Big bay. The
walleye fishing has been better on the east end lately, I would recommend Big Bay for the best fishing.

If you stay on the west side fish the
Vermilion river narrows......or Zupp's point in Niles bay.....The narrows have been good lately for, walleye and pan fish.....and you should be able to find some eaters at Zupp's point.

The best sites are located on islands
in the mouth of Cable bay. There are
also some good ones on the far eastern shoreline of Big bay, between Armstrong
and Mud creek bays. The west side of Birch island has a dandy, there are two Birch islands, this one is on the east end of the bay next to Dog island.
