I'm hoping to be at the lake the weekend of the muskie tournament and signing up. My wife pointed out to me that if I should happen to catch one, I would have to put it into the live well to register it. After thinking about it, and picturing the front live well, I'm not too sure I want to put one in there. More worried about getting it out.

Don't worry about the live well you won't be useing it, this tourney is run on the honor system, when you land that big one you will have to take a picture of it wearing a hat that you will get on the day of the event, you will also get a camera. There are some nice prizes for the winners and door prizes too. It should be a fun day for all.

The guideman has gave me some great advise on equipment, now only if he would share some of the hot spots on the east end I would have it made.
Lake Vermilion has 1200 miles of shoreline so I would say thats about 10 miles of shoreline per boat assuming that there are 120 boats in this event.

Hi Rob & Krash, we have arranged to
have a seminar at the casino the night prior to the event. I don't
know for sure what time but as soon
as I find out, I will post it here.

This tournament is perfect for those of you that have never fished in a tournament atmosphere. We want to make it fun and a great experence for all. Winning or losing is not whats important, there will be lots of great door prizes, including a full
day of muskie fishing.....with the guideman!... smile.gif

I never fished in a tournament, so I don't know what to expect. It may be difficult to get to a few of my spots whan there are already 3 or 4 boats there. I just don't like to crowd others.

Looking forward to it, should be a lot of fun. I hope I can get to the casino early enough to learn some tips from Guideman and the rest of you veteran muskie fishermen.

The seminar will be at Fortune bay
the night befor the event. Myself and Tom Wehler of Muskytom's guide service will be the speakers. We will be covering all aspects of the hunt including location and presentation. It's all free and I hope to get a chance to meet some of you there!.... smile.gif

You know, I just realized that August 4th is my first of 8 days fishing there. I'll be bass fishing basically the same areas you guys will be musky fishing. I'm gonna get killed by one of them giant hunks of hair, metal, plastic, or wood that you guys throw, ain't I? 120 boats? There's not really going to be that many boats, are there?

If any of you see a red Crestliner 1650 Fish Hawk with a 60hp Mercury, be nice and say hello.

Is the time of the seminar set yet? I have a 3-1/2 hour non-stop drive that friday night and I work until 4PM. Hopefully I can cut out early and the traffic is not too bad.

I need a ruling. I plan on registering for the tournament, but my wife does not. She wants to fish for smallmouth while I cast for the big fish. I noticed that the registration lists a 2 man team for. I will be a 1 man team for. I hpoe this is not a problem. What do you think?

Hope to see you there!

  • 2 weeks later...

Any recent reports on the muskie action on V. I will be entered in the tourniment and have to work this weekend so I won't be able to get out and do much previewing. Where do all the experts expect to find them a week from now. Any more info on the seminar the night before. Also, if I keep my boat in the lake are the judges going to make me trailer it to Fortune Bay for the start of the tourniment? Thanks for the info. Ski Nut

Muskie fishing has been very good this past weekend. A lot of fishing moving and biting. Boated a 49 incher on Sunday (will have picture posted on website by the end of the week). Surface lures saw action but not very good for hooking. Bucktails and spinners worked best (small bucktails or spinners tipped with a twister tail). A few fish liking jerk baits. Found fish in both the rocks and weeds. Weed fish were more eager to bite.

Good luck fishing everyone.

PS I had a fish miss my jerkbait and hit the boat (Ouch! That had to hurt!).

Hi guys, unfortunately the seminar has
been canceled. Due to some problems with the promoter and the printer we were unable to get the word out. I was
willing to do it for whatever number of people showed up but the room at the casino was also canceled. They do plan
on making it apart of the tournament in the future. Sorry guys.. frown.gif

Good to have you back Guideman. I am sure the muskies did not miss you! Their mouths had a rest.

The picture of the 49" er is on my web site in the photo album for all interested.

Fishing should be hot this weekend. Good luck you all in the tournament.
