Pine Island Report 3/19-3/21

Really tough bite. For two full days of hard fishing, we only picked up 14 fish and they were small. We tried half a dozen depths and locations without success. I have to believe that the weather was a big part of the problem (windy/cold front). Based on what the locals were saying, this March has not yet produced a strong late ice bite. The roads were in pretty tough shape but passable with a 4x4. Lots of water crusted over with ice. Going any distance off road in the Pine Island area is not a possibility. Sleds were the only option for mobility over the weekend.

Carlton: Had the same bite one day before you. What depth were you at? We did much better late afternoon moving to 16-17' of water. It was definitley an expeirance though. Hope this Thursday thru Saturday is a little better. Good luck and hang on. Bill

We fished depths from 16 to 31 feet concentrating on shallower depths in the morning and evening, deeper at mid-day.
