portables?

heading up this sunday and wondering if a guy can use a portable or not? heard that there is a foot of water on the ice any truth to this? heading out of zippel bay. dont want to drag them all the way up there if we cant use them!

I left LOW this morning and there was no water on the ice. There were a couple slush holes but they were on the previously plowed roads and you don't have to worry about them. As far as setting up a portable out there, you will be fine, unless something changes before you head up. I used a portable yesterday, as did about a hundred other people scattered out from Pine Island for several miles. A week ago you had a lot of slush and water on the plowed roads, but off the roads you still had good area to set up portables. With the cold temps that LOW had a couple days ago it solidified everything and made things a bit easier. I'm not sure what the forecast looks like for up there this week, I would keep an eye on it and see if melting temps are possible. But, as of today you will be fine with portables.
