Hello fellow fishermen and women. I'm coming up March 19-22 for some pike fishing and am wondering where to go, how the ice is and if we can drive out their with a truck and if their is any plowed roads. Thanks for all of your help. Looking forward to this trip.

Boy ya got my blood pumpin on this one. That time of the season go shallow. I mean shallow. 4' or less under which means you're actually in 8' with 4' of ice. I've caught pike in just 2' under ice that time of year. Dead cisco or sucker on the bottom. Another tip with live sucker just off the bottom. Twin rock is good. The shallows out of arnesons or warroad, the reed river mouth in Buffolo bay. And my personal favorite, oopps, cant give that one up hee hee. Just stay shallow, pluse the pike are pretty lithargick pre spawn and dont like to chase a bait. Later boar

Boar- Would it be a good idea to go off of Springsteel Resort or not. Do you have an idea if they have a plowed road or not. And how would i get to and on the lake at that buffaloe point or reed river mouth? Thankyou Youv'e been a very good help. I'm bringing some guys up and haven't fished at that time of the year so I really don't know where to go. When we were up in January we went out of Springsteel Resort and only caught 6 the entire weekend with one being 40.5. Good luck fishing everyone

op110,
You said you were up fishing Pike out of Springsteel in January, were you in shallow right off to the right of the channel or out the other way toward Elm Pt? I might be wrong but 6 in one weekend with one at 40.5" sounds pretty good to me. Last spring towards the beginning of April we only managed 2 through the ice in one weekend.
Anyway, my dad has been up out of Zippel last 2 weekends for walleyes and it has been pretty slow. Got some spare time Sunday and was thinking of trying for Pike in the morning. Haven't decided if I'm gonna try out of Springsteel, Warroad, or over towards Swift Ditch. Anyway, if anybody has been out and has some reports, I'm all ears.

Yes we caught six the weekend of January fourth for about 15 guys. The five were between "20-28" on the first day and the next day was colder than h*** and we were very lucky to have that 40.5 bite. we were off to the right of springsteel next to the spear houses

Central America. Focus. We almost went for a local overnight crappie run but the daughter’s septic froze so I got to work the brown trout pond through a 4 inch hole. It was opener today afterall. 😉

Ok, how did we get from crappies and freezing temps to pond slime eaters in south America? Focus! 🙄

The locals there shoot ducks but don't hunt them. If they see a bunch on a pond they'll sneak up and water swat them but it's strictly for food not sport. My buddy runs an outfitter so him and I will hunt a few days and scout then I'll help him with a group whose coming mid week. He's from there. Hoping he can come to Canada next year with me. He's never seen or shot a goose

Awesome kind of trip! I figured there would be a local benefit if you couldn’t bring them back (not saying you can’t). Having a connection down there is pretty cool! We donated a good share of meat to the village in Kotzebue, AK instead of shipping it all back. Pretty pricey and they really appreciated it. Win/win.

I don't bring them back, eat a lot then clean them for the village. Some like them plucked and some like the breasts cut out. It's really remote where I go and the locals live off the land. I know they want me to go get some doves for them too. My buddy is a local so we'll probably go get a deer as well for some venison for some of the elders in the community
