thanks widetrack. I pulled out my low map and found springsteel point. I have never ventured farther than sixteen mile, normally have great fishing on the mud between 12 and 16, but bablers road is only plowed to arnesons reef. So since we have to drag sleds up we are thinking of fishing that shoreline between stony and rooty point, or possibly garden Is, any comments do,s and dont,s on the sleds would be helpful, ala pressure ridges, open water in that area.....slush ponds. Or if fishing an that area typicaly sucks then maybe we can save the time and go pick a new area. Thank you

One little peice of advice would be to if at all possible bring some g.p.s. with you. Been saved many times on both soft and hard water up there because of it. It doesn't take much to make it a brutal day out there, snow, wind, or fog.

Thanks for the advice I will. It also helps to mark so hotspots if you find them. Sounds like some warm weather so we could get some thick morning fog.

Hey WT, can you send me an email with your email address's? They were both on here last nite and now everyone of them in my computer are gone again. I may have inadvertently done this while cleaning it out last nite though!
Thanks....Fisky

Fisky or widetrack can you explain how to get to springsteel from the patch hotel...fishing friday and saturday bringing the sleds up because the lack of plowed roads out of bablers. We were thinking of starting fishing at stony point area and working are way north. Any info on trail conditions before friday would be awsome...thank you

Take a left on to highway 11. Take a right at the stoplight, heading north about 3 miles you will see the springsteel sign.
On cat, I'd take a left at the stop light, there is a trail along the road going by the school, and down to the river. Take the river to the lake, then buzz across to spring steel.
Fisky, sent you mail.
[This message has been edited by widetrack (edited 02-24-2004).]

Hey widetrack,
If I head straight north from Long Point, would I hit the marked snowmobile trail going to the angle?
Posted

Nope, you wouldn't. Not for a very long ways.
It runs from Springsteel, to Buffalo point, accross to Stony, then continues up the West shoreline.

Posted

W/T, if he headed north, wouldn't he cross the snomobile trail (ballards I think) that comes from pine island?

Posted

The ballard trail is quite a ways off to the east from long point. Long point is sort of the dead center between the Audubon, and Ballard trail.
Central America. Focus. We almost went for a local overnight crappie run but the daughter’s septic froze so I got to work the brown trout pond through a 4 inch hole. It was opener today afterall. 😉

Ok, how did we get from crappies and freezing temps to pond slime eaters in south America? Focus! 🙄

The locals there shoot ducks but don't hunt them. If they see a bunch on a pond they'll sneak up and water swat them but it's strictly for food not sport. My buddy runs an outfitter so him and I will hunt a few days and scout then I'll help him with a group whose coming mid week. He's from there. Hoping he can come to Canada next year with me. He's never seen or shot a goose

Awesome kind of trip! I figured there would be a local benefit if you couldn’t bring them back (not saying you can’t). Having a connection down there is pretty cool! We donated a good share of meat to the village in Kotzebue, AK instead of shipping it all back. Pretty pricey and they really appreciated it. Win/win.

I don't bring them back, eat a lot then clean them for the village. Some like them plucked and some like the breasts cut out. It's really remote where I go and the locals live off the land. I know they want me to go get some doves for them too. My buddy is a local so we'll probably go get a deer as well for some venison for some of the elders in the community
