Any predictions this year how long the ice will last for ice fishing. Hoping to get out this year yet but can't go for a couple weeks yet.

We should still be driving out the first weekend in March yet. Will post when the shore line or lake starts to get bad.

there was more than 3 feet of clear ice this weekend... I've never seen ice that clean and thick in March. I'll bet it lasts til' the last week of April.

I am headed to Winnie this weekend with my brother and his 2 boys (5 and 7) and wanted to get them on some good perch, but he is concerned about driving out with all this warm weather. I told him that without question, the ice is fine to drive a truck out since I was there 1 1/2 weeks ago and the ice was crystal clear and I used/needed an extension. Anyway, can you confirm still driveable ice conditions?

Also, I have my ATV and snowmobile ready for action since I will be the mobile one to find and stay on the fish. Is there a ton of water on the ice, and which machine would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Stick, got a call last night from Pines Resort, the place we are staying this weekend. I was informed that the shore ice has gone to sh-t. Wheeler traffic only after Wed. just thought I'd pass this on. We have fourteen guys going this weekend, so were all scrabling for wheelers and trailers.Good luck to you this weekend, stay afloat.

We fished Winnie today, Wed. The ice is fine yet, snow is mostly gone, Access at Highbanks has some water close to shore but they moved over a little and there was no problem. Don't know for how much longer. If in douht, just call before you go. Stan C.

7600 has the best idea, just call where ever you are going out of. As of today our shore still looks good and had trucks going out. The rocks about 1 1/2 mile out from Ravins was the best spot today.

Ugly Saturday on Norwegian Bay. One Pike off of Windsock Island, nothing else much to speak of. Cold and windy but finished off with a beautiful Evening. There were a couple of good eyes caught near the north end, a 27" and a couple in the slots but most boats didn't see much. I saw 2 caught in front of the beach at Life of Riley in a matter of a couple minutes.  Sunday morning we met up with some friends and went out of Tower. Dragging bottom bouncers with minnows in 24-32' produced 11 keepers between the 4 of us, largest about 16" and lots of throw backs. Best luck just off of Priest Island. 4 hours of fishing with everyone except me pulling them in the boat until the last 10 minutes I put two in the livewell. I broke off with 10 minutes to go and was going to quit when everyone said "no, keep going!"  Glad I did cause I finished strong and redeemed myself. Never give up!

Went to Franconia on Saturday. Wind was cold and miserable! With it howling straight downstream, my options were pretty limited, so we mostly trolled up and down the main channel. Caught 1 pike, 2 smallies, and 1 white bass.

Things seem to be moving right along.  Yesterday on a small Cass county lake we found sunfish and crappies in 6ft+/- ft of water with some crappies already on beds.

Looks like it was a successful outing ST. My boat probably  hates me as I haven't had it out for a swim yet. MAYBE, if I'm lucky I will be able to get out over Memorial weekend. Thanks for the report.

Most of the streams are small. Where I focus is the small streams in the back country for brook trout. Casting is hard on these streams. Some of the bigger rivers can be good. Remember the crazy rules on these streams.

Wow Eyeguy you can catch them and panfish. Keep it up and let’s hear about some details.

The walleye bite is heating up around the area. Bass are on the beds and panfish are keeping most anglers busy. Remember the new pike regs are in place now. Good luck and let’s hear some reports and see some more photos!! Thank you to all that check my reports. I am off to get some fishing in.

The last few days have been pretty hot on areas of the river for a lot of nice bass between 16-18 inches, topping out at 19 inches for my largest. Many were fish located on spawning beds, some hitting aggressively and immediately, and some not interested in even acknowledging the bait. I started out with a 4 inch wacky worm on a VMC wacky weedless jighead, but found that I was getting larger, more aggressive fish by switching to a 5 inch wacky. I would Imagine that the spawn will be all but over within a few days.
