Northern pike
All northern pike from 30 through 40 inches must immediately be released and only one northern pike over 40 inches may be possessed. The possession limit for northern pike is 3, and the regulation applies to Lake of the Woods, the Rainy River and the Warroad, Winter Road and Baudette Rivers. There is no closed season for northern pike on Lake of the Woods or the Rainy River. The effects of this experimental regulation are being monitored, and the regulation will be reviewed in 2005.
Yellow perch
The bag limit is 20 yellow perch per day, with 40 in possession.
Walleye
Walleye season runs from the statewide walleye opener through April 14th with a possession limit of 6 walleye. On Lake of the Woods, only 1 walleye over 19.5 inches may be harvested per day. Anglers fishing the Rainy River, may possess only one walleye over 19.5 inches, except no walleye over 19.5 inches may be possessed from March 1 through April 14. From March 1 through April 14 the possession limit is 2 walleye.
Sauger
Note that walleye and sauger limits are an aggregate limit. Sauger season is concurrent with walleye season. From December 1 through April 14 the Lake of the Woods possession limit for sauger is 14. You may keep up to 14 walleye and sauger, but no more than 6 of these may be walleye. From walleye opener through November 30, the aggregate limit is 8 (no more than 6 walleye). Note that the aggregate walleye/sauger limit on the Rainy River is 6 (exception: 2 from March 1-April 14, none over 19.5 inches).
Lake sturgeon
On March 1, 2001 lake sturgeon regulations were changed to an open season from July 1 to the following April 30. Only one sturgeon may be harvested per license year, and all sturgeon shorter than 45 inches or longer than 55 inches must be immediately released.
Lake sturgeon regulations are currently under review. If new regulations are adopted they will be published on the DNR web site and in the 2004 regulations booklet.
Note: For a more thorough listing of the regulations that apply to the Lake of the Woods area, please see the Canada-Minnesota Border Waters section, pages 43-45 in the 2003 Minnesota fishing regulations synopsis .

Central America. Focus. We almost went for a local overnight crappie run but the daughter’s septic froze so I got to work the brown trout pond through a 4 inch hole. It was opener today afterall. 😉

Ok, how did we get from crappies and freezing temps to pond slime eaters in south America? Focus! 🙄

The locals there shoot ducks but don't hunt them. If they see a bunch on a pond they'll sneak up and water swat them but it's strictly for food not sport. My buddy runs an outfitter so him and I will hunt a few days and scout then I'll help him with a group whose coming mid week. He's from there. Hoping he can come to Canada next year with me. He's never seen or shot a goose

Awesome kind of trip! I figured there would be a local benefit if you couldn’t bring them back (not saying you can’t). Having a connection down there is pretty cool! We donated a good share of meat to the village in Kotzebue, AK instead of shipping it all back. Pretty pricey and they really appreciated it. Win/win.

I don't bring them back, eat a lot then clean them for the village. Some like them plucked and some like the breasts cut out. It's really remote where I go and the locals live off the land. I know they want me to go get some doves for them too. My buddy is a local so we'll probably go get a deer as well for some venison for some of the elders in the community
