I see you own a tire shop so if you had a set 44 TSL super swamper boggers you might be able to go out and get around, but other than that you better stick to the roads and unless you are on the east side their isnt very many of them.
------------------
catch them all big fat an small

There is very limited travel once you get off the roads. I have a couple houses at Long Point and they are both 50 yards off the road. I can get to them, but first I have to have the resort knock down the burm on the road. The sides of the road are 4+ ft. high is some areas. Once that gets knocked down I make sure I have at least 2 other people with me and a couple shovels. I hit the gas and go until I get stuck. I usually don't get stuck until I try to turn around. Once I get a path, then I'm good to go.
Don't expect to come up and just head out and drive anywhere you want. Bring snowmobiles if you want to do that. Good luck and have fun.

1tofish,
Does the resort charge you to punch a hole in the bank? I've had similar troubles with getting to my house out there. We were able to get pretty close to it on Friday and Saturday, but we gave the Suburban a serious workout.

1tofish,
I hear your frustruation, impossible to regulat unfortunatly. Luckily I'm close to one of the resort houses so a trail usually seems to be open. Lot's of people like to move in around me though. Oh well, I... nor does anyone else own the lake. We all just need to get along out on the hard water.

I've gotten to know Kelly at Long Point over the years and I always give him $5-$10 for punching me a access. He's returned the favor a time or two by giving me a couple of free ones. Usually this happens during the week when things are a little slower. If he does this for me on a weekend I make sure I pay him. The only bad thing about doing this is that it's guarenteed that someone will drive in and set up within 50 ft. of me. I know it's not a private access, but at times it's frustrating. I'm not the type to go and ask for reimbursment, but when the only house the access is going to is mine you would think that person would maybe check with you to see if it cost you anything?

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
