I just got back from a little afternoon fishing on Red Lake and would like to say that drunk people should not be allowed to use two way radios. Cuss and swear ..."F" this and "F" that followed by and few off color jokes and the next minute there will be young children on the air. Not good. I here it from time to time on LOW but not like that.
Thats my 2 cents.

Scarface,
You get the same thing on Marine band radios
in the summer.
I think there are 3 reason why this happens.
1. There is no enforcement
2. You are pretty much invisible while on
the radio so you cant see the sour looks
or the eyes rolling of the people you
offend.
3. Some people cuss alot, you could run
into the same language on the street.
Those people that cuss alot cuss even
more while fishing.
Sooner or later your 13 year old will hear
this language. It is a perfect time for you
to control the instant response. You have
a one on one opportunity to instill the idea
that that kind of language is something you
dissaprove of.
Turn the negative into a positive.
------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Hi Scarface,Curt: I think if we advised the local Sheriff about the breaking of the Federal Law (FCC), Curt you know the profanity Law I'm talking about, maybe he would listen in and scare some sense into these nuts. I know the Amatuer Radio Bands had the same problem with persons who used BAD language without idenifying, and got caught. They were fined BIG time and even threatened with jail. Jim Devalt, the CO up there has retired, so I don't know anyone else in authority now, but just spreading the word, most people know the law, might help curb the dirt. The FCC does have a van in St Paul they use just for this purpose and may be encouraged to visit Red and LOTW sometime in the near future.. Curt, why don't you run this by your friend with the Badge.. Just a thought... Kaz

Kaz, I agree totally. Curt forgot one point in his summary... It doesn't take much brain power to talk filth! We want to keep the water clean so let's keep the airwaves clean as well. My 2 cents.

You hear a lot of that on the radios today, best suggestion is to change channels, your 13 year old has probably heard all of the F words already at school or with his friends.

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
