Picked up copy of 2004 regs the other day. Pretty much the same as last year with some changes to Sturgeon regs.
4/24-5/7 and 7/1-9/30
1 per year, keeper slot 45 to 50 inches, or 1 over 75 inches. Upon reducing fish to possesion you must sign your license.
5/8-5/16 and 10/1-4/23 2005....C&R only
Also no gaffs allowed on the ice or in a boat on the Rainy river after March 1.

Thanks Fisky, good to see you participating again. Have never hooked one of these bad boys up there. I can imagine it would get your shorts in a bunch though. Bill

Fisky,
Is that no gaff's on just the Rainy River or all of LOW?

Froggy, just the river apparently.
"A person cannot possess or use a gaff while fishing on the Rainy river", as worded in regs booklet.
Curious they did'nt include the lake as well as the river.
A salmon tailer is an option for those who don't like wrestling 5 foot fish!
fiskyknut

fisky is the gaff rule to be a permanent rule, so that you will never be able to use one. I am guessing that is the case it sounds that way from the way it is worded. I guess it is a good rule like you say it is suprising that they only put it on the river and not on the lake itself. The only time I use one anyhow if for eelpout anyways let them curl around the gaff rather than my arm.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWalleyes
I Fish For Walleyes
[email protected]

Yep I'd imagine it'll be around for a good longtime. I will venture a guess and say this will be altered down the road to include the lake as well as the river. Gaffs just are'nt good selective harvest tools!
I do like the fact that if you do luck out and catch a possible state record size fish you can keep it if it is within the harvest seasons. There are record class fish here.
That and the extension into May. My Bday is 5/6 and it was a tradition for me to go fish Sturgeon on My Bday, looks like I can again.
fiskyknut

Fisky, has the law changed for ice house's ?
I read it and the wording includes driver license number And complete name and address Or DNR number.. What is a DNR number? the license ?

Posted

You have 3 options, Name and address is 1, your drivers license # is another. DNR # is your shortest option, this # is located right under the big 03 on your current fishing license, it is 9 digits.
Fisky
