Hi all, New to the board and first time hitting the ice on LOW. Fished it in the summer out of Long Point and did well.
A group of us from work are going up for 3 days on 2/19/04 staying in Schusters 6 man sleeper.
Kind of looking for someone that has stayed in them to give us the headsup on what they are like. Any help would be appreciated. Like what we should bring with or not bring, is the cook stove a 2 burner or four? We plan on having a couple of pans of fish cooking LOL and one for the potatoes and beans. Anything you wished you would have taken with you to there sleeper?
Any fishing reports out of Schusters until 2/18/04 would also be appreciated.
Thanks and good luck fishing, Dan

Thanks Hunt for the link I did read that one but it was kind of a mess about eating fish on the ice. I was looking for a little more info about the sleeper houses and current fishing reports out of Schusters sleepers.
Dan

ok. Wasn't sure. I did take a look at one of them that was just being built in December. they were goiing to put it out shortly. It had a dual burner stove. That's about all I can remeber seeing. It was a very nice shack.

I'll be staying in a Schusters sleeper again in March, third year in a row. Always had a good time. Stove has two burners. 5 gallon jug fresh water, pots and pans are there as well as garbage bags, metal folding chairs, table, heated attatched bathroom. Free fatheads too. We always bring up a turkey and the big fryer, turkey one night fish the next. Can't wait! Also bring some cards, fish are done by 5:30. Have fun.

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
