I was supposed to stay at my buddies house up there on the lake. The only one losing out from me not going is the Wigwam. They will lose out on getting my booze money! I'll be back when it warms up.
Mike--

Mike, you don't need to wear your panties out on the lake. You take those off when you leave home. Come on, thats what heaters are for. Toughen up.

Nice one gaffer! My SUV barely started this morning at -15. The low is supposed to be -35 in Baudette tonight. I hear all kinds of reports of large pickups getting stuck when getting off the road to find a spot. I really dont want to deal with this while Im half in the bag, you know what I mean? I'll be up soon.
Mike--

I was fishing in my shirt sleeves today. 75 degrees inside, -27 outside. It's supposed to slowly warm up, 0 to a little above on Saturday with some snow.

www.weather.gov straight from the National Weather Service. At 12:15 am 1-30-04
-29 F, Friday high of -17 F low -17 F, Saturday high 0 F low -13 F, Sunday -2 F for a high -19 F for a low, Monday -1 F and -19 F for a low. If that aint a deep freeze, I dont know what is.
Almost forgot. Report is for Baudette. Will be colder out on the ice from the radiational cooling caused by the snow and ice.
Mike--
[This message has been edited by mpotter21 (edited 01-30-2004).]

Hell,
It will be just as cold in the cities and just as warm in your house as it will be up on the lake . SO you might as well get away for awhile and at least have fun and not ponder what you were going too do you will definately regret it in the future

Jar Jar
Oh and like the big gaffer said leave the panties at home and have fun grin.gif
[This message has been edited by JAR JAR (edited 01-30-2004).]

I hear you potter. It is cold as hell. I bet its colder than the report even says. The cold doesn't usually bother me but this is ridiculous. -30 is cold.

-30 compared to 30 is the same as 90 is to 30. Thats quite a difference.

Fished Thursday and Friday out of Zipple Bay resort. The houses and Log Cabins were nice and toasty! grin.gif The fishing was slow, but between 10 of us we still landed 100 fish and kept 50.
Good time, good place.

------------------
Happy Fishing,
Woodman

Woodman, good to hear that their still catching some fish, rented house outta Zippel for next fri - sat. can't wait.

riverratpete- I hope that you have warmer weather then we did. Try and get out as deep as you can. Set your bobber close to the bottom, and jig the other one. Pound it on the bottom and the fish will come to see what is going on. I caught most of my fish doing this. I would lift it off the bottom really slow and the fish would follow it up and nail it.
You may want to purchase your bait before you get to zipple resort. They don't open until 7, so if you have your bait you can hit the house for the sun up bite.
Let me know how you do,

------------------
Happy Fishing,
Woodman

Woodman -
We ended up over on 16 mile in a permanent shack of a friend. Had to ride snowmobiles out on Friday at -34. Took us 45 minutes to get out there. Without a GPS we'd a been raven bait.
Any size to your catch? We had a herd a perch all day Sat. and kept 30 perch ALL at 12 to 13. Big as footballs.

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
