I'm looking to find a CLEAN resort with amenities that would occupy my wife and kids while I'm out fishing. There are so many to choose from I don't know where to begin. This lake is so HUGE I wonder if my 16' Alumacraft Lunker is big enough. Please help out a 1st timer(I hope) to some of the nicer resorts. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!

With your boat, I would look at the resorts along the rainy river. They run from Wheeler's Point down to Baudette. This way if there's a big chop out on the lake, you can always fish the river.

Look to the river resorts. It gets pretty hairy out on the main lake sometimes. Been rock and rolled out there in the 18 footer. It can get to 9 and 10 footers real fast. If you get a river resort you can fish both the gap has always produced for us in the summer.

We have a very clean resort and very quiet. No bar or restaurant so depends on what you want. We are on Bostic Bay which connects to Four Mile Bay and over to the Rainy River, so plenty of bay waters if the lake is too rough. Our cabins are very spacious and have 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom cabins.
1-800-726-9042
------------------
Terri Fischbach of Walleye Retreat

Walleye Retreat is comfy and not far from
anywhere. Including many restaurants.
But Terri, wouldn't you suggest that for
small boat fishing June might be quite
a bit better due to the
great bite you have closer in early in
the year? July might be tougher fishing
in the washout.
------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Curt,
There's plenty of good fishing in bostic bay and four mile bay - wasn't necessarily saying he had to fish the washout. Pete fishes those areas with the charter boat when lake is too rough to get out and does well with shadraps. Depends on what the fisherman wants.

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
