Coming up next week for vacation and hoping to find anything from bass (SM and LM) to walleyes to panfish. Any suggestions on what's going best? And to the posters of the Turtle Lake thread, are the smallies going good there now and which part of the lake would be the best place to start?

The crappies are starting to "drop down" to deeper water on some of the lakes. I fished last night and found fish all over. Some were still relating to the weeds in 10' while others were located in a mid-lake basin of 20'. Check out the smaller lakes first for this happening.

Also, big pike should be up shallow and on the prowl. Cast big lures near major weed beds. Oh yeah, HANG ON!

I was up in the marcell area last weekend and caught some real nice smallies, including an 16 incher, they were on shallow rocks 8'-2', points and in between islands. they were biteing on raps and small shiners. the best bite was in the mornin 6am-9am. caught a couple nice crappies in about 8' of water in a channel between an island and the main shore, they were biting in the evening on small fatheads. Trolling rapalas, throwing spoons and fishing suckers under a bobber, along moderate to deep weed beds are always a good bet for PIKE. They should move a tad bit shallower in the evening with the cool weather.

As for turtle lake..

Fish the rocky points. There is rocky sunkin island near gov's point that has produced for me in the past. I havent been there in a while so I am not sure what it has been like lately.

I never vote for, I alawys vote against

Greg, You mentioned that big pike should be up shallow. Does that hold true for large lakes like Pokegama? I didn't think they came up shallow until mid to late October.

Fished the SW corner today about 2 miles out. Lowest amount of ice I found was 10" and a few spots well over 20". Before anyone gets too excited I'm pretty sure these spots were where the ice push up on itself or below itself. Rough ice in general. Marked a lot of fish, tried everything and eventually got a few at dusk on a dead stick and a spoon. No big cracks but a few about half a foot and completely open. Nice to get out but was a long walk out and back.

Well I wish you guys would do it after walleye closes. The last few years you guys have done it on the final weekend of walleye  so some people won't do it . Cats don't close so you can do it whenever you want.

Didn't get to swing the sledge on Saturday. Had a bum ankle that has kept me sidelined and was feeling pretty good on Friday so I got out and about shopping. May have over did it and suffered a little bit of a set back but it's pretty good today. Should be able to swing the hammer tomorrow.

Open water right in front of launch on linwood. 2 guys went through this morning. Up to their waists in water. Just be careful walking out. Had 9 inches everywhere I drilled on the lake.
