A friend of mine in a new factory made
permanent fish house just about got himself
and 4 others gassed by Carbon Monoxide last
weekend. (including a couple of kids)
He had a detector but it was weak from comming on every time he opened the holes
with his auger.
At this point in the season how is your
detector? Do you have one?
How this happened it still being looked at.
The heater is back at the factory for inspection. Again it is all new stuff and
the burner evidently sits outside of the
house. Should have never happened but it
did.
Something else to think about...be careful.

------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Something I have noticed is with this cold weather every time I leave my house with the heat off for a couple days and come back the co detector is beeping.I install new batteries and it is fine.Has this been happening to anyone else? Are the batteries getting to cold?

I think the hole unit is to cold mine will act this way until it gets warmed up. A Good idea might be to get a new unit and take it out of the house when you go home. then hang it up after the air has cleared from drilling. what brand of heater was this???
------------------
River man

Thanks for the heads up Curt! It's something that needs routine attention. I bring a digital unit with about where-ever I go and take out the batterys when I'm done with it.
I keep it in the cooler so if I forget the beer then I won't have it with, that never happens (; I have saddle bags on it too

I dont know what brand it was but I will
try to find out.
More important is that it is pretty new and
of modern design, all flames are outside
of the fishhouse and while it should have
been fine it was not!
It seems like a good idea to take the
detectors out of the house when you are not
there and re-install them each trip. Good
thinkin
------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
