I am curious as to what everyone uses for a hitch on their portables when pulling with an ATV or Snowmobile. I have a Fish Trap Voyager, and I am planning on purchasing this hitch from clam corp.
http://www.clamcorp.com/store/towhitch.html
The question I have is: What does everyone use on the "coupler" end of the hitch to attach to ATV and or Snowmobile. I don't think anyone makes this accessory, so I would like to make something that is either universal for both ATV and Sled, or one for each.
I am planning on going to LOW at the end of March with 8-10 people, and we will be fishing out of portables. Not knowing how much snow there will be, I would like to be prepared to tow portable with either ATV or sled.
Thanks,
Shake'em

Why not save 40 bucks and use a 2*2 attached to a rope on the inside of the shake for extra support?

pbowhunter...
I would like a hitch made out of something other than rope. When using only a rope, and one stops the ATV, the sled doesn't stop... I have thought about making a hitch out of conduit (copying clam corps design).
What I am curious about is what everyone uses for a "coupler" if you will, to attach the hitch to the ATV/Snowmobile.
Thanks,
Shake'em

I use a length of chain, with inch and half PVC pipe sleeving most of the chain. I just loop the chain over my quad hitch, and the PVC keeps the tub from banging into the quad when I stop.
I can flop the whole hitch assembly back over the top of my tub for storage, so it soes not stick out at all.

I bought a bumper hitch from a Polaris dealer for my sled. I think it was around $26.00.
Friends I have that use 4 wheelers have hitches already on there wheelers.

Cabela's used to carry a universal hitch for the Clam's for around 20-25 bucks. I bought one there so it may be worth checking out.

I have a Frabill Ranger Twin with a similar hitch that I bought at Cabela's. The hitch, as you can see from the picture on that web site you posted, has a coupler on one end. My hitch came with a locking pin that goes through the hitch and the tounge on the wheeler. Yours will most likely come with this type of pin. It's nothing fancy, any hardware store sells these. They come in different sizes and styles. A pin and a cotter key would work just as well. One suggetion is to tie the pin to your hitch. It will help you keep track of it when in storage or in transport.

[This message has been edited by 1tofish (edited 01-16-2004).]

Last day of myself hunting before I help my friend with new clients. Back on the bigger marsh, mainly teal but 5 fulvous whistling ducks. A medium size duck but they fly and decoy like Canada geese, big circles and glide in. They are noisey birds

Kettle, sounds like an awesome trip. Never see drake bluewings in MN during the season. For the bridge my pucker factor would've been 11, and that's walking across both ways!!

I did the looper steelhead thing in front of the French River once. It was fun. I got one looper but the sight fishing aspect of it was the most fun. We saw a couple guys limit on steelhead up close to shore and learned the black fly was the way to catch ‘em. We didn’t have any. My first 40+ hour day that I can remember. Went to work Friday morning, Van Halen concert Friday night, too jacked up on the way home to call it a day so we loaded up for the North Shore. Fished all day, drove home Saturday night. Those crazy kids… Chequamegon Bay and the Apostle Islands have always been a want but an undone deed. The wander spirit has faded from my old traveling buds. They like to stick to what they know now.

About 20" of ice in Black Bay., although that's just based on how far my auger went before breaking through.
