Last week was about my 40th trip to Cass (with 6 others in our group this year) and was quite different than usual.  The previous week air temps hit 100 with much wind.  Last week we ran into warm  air also with strong winds all week.  We had no rain, which was nice, but overall it was a tough bite last week for our group.

Our first eve walleye attack resulted in 12 for the pan and we thought it was gonna be a gangbuster week.  But too much wind and sunny skies everyday had us on the water about half as many hours as usual with most days spent in the cabin from lunchtime to after supper.

The second eve we were only able to capture 4 walleye and only 5 more for the rest of the week.  Mornings were spent chasing pannies but, except for Tuesday, we hardly had any to clean.  That day we found them in 5 1/2' right in the thick of the weeds in Pike Bay - Rockies, Gillies, LMB, and some jumbo Perch.  If we ventured shallower into 4 then 3 then 2'  all we could find were Punk Perch or small pannies.  We found the same to be true on the Northside in Allen's Bay.  It appears to us the fish had moved deeper after last week's hotspell and we had a tough time finding any numbers in deeper weeds.

The bonus of the week was that the LMB were active and those are always fun.  We only got 2 NPike for the week and even when we concentrated on Perch could not locate many Jumbos.

But we caught enough to have a Thursday fishfry....and it was delicious!!!

Too bad it was so windy and so we did not take a trip to Kitchi nor did we venture into Windigo.  Wait until next year!!!

GLuck out there.

(The first eve we got the walleyes on Golden Shiners but not after.  And the pannies favored leeches-which outproduced nightcrawlers by a large margin).
