A friend of mine is bring a stationary house up thursday night(1-15-04)from southern MN.Just wondering if or how soon the road from babblers would possibly be plowed after the expected snow and wind that is predicted for the next couple days. Would hate to make the trip up there and find out the road is unusable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

boston, your question is almost impossible to answer with all the variables that occur out on the lake. I spoke with Richard Babler yesterday, he said the visiblility yesterday was very poor to see to plow, resulting in lots of welding on his plow, yet the visibility was a couple of miles. Knowing the potential income he gets from having the roads open, you can be sure he will do everything in his power to keep the roads open for everyone. Depending on the wind, if he can't get out with his plow, there is a good chance you could get out from Long Point Resort because of the shorter distance to deep water. Hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Thanks king fisher(I understand it's all dependent on wind) , if anyone from up there could reply wednesdy night or thursday a.m. with current conditions it would be really helpful.
[This message has been edited by boston (edited 01-13-2004).]

I'm sure that Richard will be out plowing this morning as long as the wind isn't blowing too bad. Worst case senario is that you park the house along the shore and fish a portable until the road gets opened up. Looking out my window right now and the wind doesn't appear to be an issue. You should be fine, but you can always give Richard Babbler a call @ (218) 442-6661 for a current condition. Hope that this help you out. Good luck!!

I have been fishing out of what used to be Frank's place since the mid 70's and have never seen so many houses out on the lake. Wherever you look there are houses, east, west, and the houses are alomost solid from Gull Rock to Arnesen's Reef. It was enjoyable for me to go over and visit with old Frank in the evenings and hear some of his stories when he first moved up there in the early fifties. Lots of good memories from the "Pond". The best part is that fishing seems to be getting better over the years.
[This message has been edited by Kingfisher (edited 01-14-2004).]

Anyone have a guess at how many trucks use his access on a Saturday? The steady stream of vehicles on a Saturday is amazing...just wondering how much $$ he brings in a weekend. Must be unreal....good for him.
He deserves it as the road is always usable. Maybe someday he'll put up a heated fish cleaning shack and charge each vehicle $6!

Central America. Focus. We almost went for a local overnight crappie run but the daughter’s septic froze so I got to work the brown trout pond through a 4 inch hole. It was opener today afterall. 😉

Ok, how did we get from crappies and freezing temps to pond slime eaters in south America? Focus! 🙄

The locals there shoot ducks but don't hunt them. If they see a bunch on a pond they'll sneak up and water swat them but it's strictly for food not sport. My buddy runs an outfitter so him and I will hunt a few days and scout then I'll help him with a group whose coming mid week. He's from there. Hoping he can come to Canada next year with me. He's never seen or shot a goose

Awesome kind of trip! I figured there would be a local benefit if you couldn’t bring them back (not saying you can’t). Having a connection down there is pretty cool! We donated a good share of meat to the village in Kotzebue, AK instead of shipping it all back. Pretty pricey and they really appreciated it. Win/win.

I don't bring them back, eat a lot then clean them for the village. Some like them plucked and some like the breasts cut out. It's really remote where I go and the locals live off the land. I know they want me to go get some doves for them too. My buddy is a local so we'll probably go get a deer as well for some venison for some of the elders in the community
