Camp Ripley 2020.

ANYFISH2

Recommended Posts

Just heads up, if you haven't already heard.  Camp Ripley youth hunt has been cancelled for 2020.

Public hunts will not have a lottery, information and purchase dates will be released in August.  This allows for a easier cancelation of the hunts.

Thanks Covid.

      The title say's it all.
I'm looking for a nice deer rifle in 308.
May consider other calibres, I'm gettin old, and don't like the recoil from magnum rifles.
I know what they are worth, no that doesn't scare me. LOL
May even consider other vintage rifles, BDL, etc.
Have lots to trade if that's you're bag, but I also have cash for the right rifle.
      Thanks
      Jim

      Well, why not anyway???

This year is a single 3 day season going on now.  Just got a pic from camp with a lucky somebody today.  Nope, I don’t know him.  Just got the pic.

Anyone else out there?  I haven’t picked up my bow in over a year and am still busy working.  I feel like I’m missing out this year!  Nice weekend to be there!

Hi everyone. It has been a slow start to the 2021 waterfowl season in MN. A combination of a bunch of factors including very low water conditions and fewer wetlands, much warmer than normal temperatures, and a lot of shooting on MN lakes and wetlands in September has led to not a lot of resident ducks left around, those that are around not moving much, and a delay in the migration of ducks and geese from the north. The saving grace for this season for me has been watching my nine year old son graduate from coming with and watching, to fully participating. Practice shooting and calling this summer has him calling and harvesting birds with a 20 gauge, and a pair of waders has him helping with decoy set up and take down. He has shot his first duck of multiple species already, and his Dad and Grandpa have managed a few ducks while letting Parker take the singles that have come in. This past weekend, we finally saw some migrating flocks of canvasbacks and gadwalls, so the calendar migration is starting, albeit a couple weeks late. Should be some good pushes of ducks into MN the next couple weeks, so good luck, and I will see you out there somewhere.

I’m cutting back on my duck snd pheasant hunting to concentrate on fishing and deer hunting. I have more shotgun shells than I need and know they are a hard to find item.  Where’s is the best place to sell or trade them?

I have lots of boxes of 12g Federal / Winchester 7.5/8shot lead trap loads, but have recently picked up a 20g OU and can't find any ammo for Wednesday night trap nights. Let me know if you'd be willing to swap a box (or more) of 12g for similar 20g loads. My ammo is stored in ammo cans indoors with desiccant packs, and all relatively new, (1-2 years) my supply is constantly being refreshed. Apple Valley / Lakeville area.

ice fishing has begun in the backus area. I walked out about 20 feet, did not punch any holes, but it looked like 4 good solid inches. some lakes capped over thursday night, so be careful, as the ice thickness will not be the same all over. my lake had open water in middle of lake, but capped over thursday.

Problem with the west end is no plowed roads. Safest setup is my sled and portable. We've had so darn much slush the last few years, even that setup can be challenging at times.

Coon lake Anoka Co. 95% locked except for narrow strip from Lexinhyon drainage ditch toward flagpole point. Several 100 swans/geese keeping it open. The ice ridge 30 ft off shore next to broken lce will most likely pose early ice access issues.  1/2 dozen Youngins fishing the channel said ice was 3 to 3 1/2".

      Google  little elk road east

4'x6' would save a little bit of weight, but would reduce the surface area for floating on snow.  I have been thinking of making a 6'x8' to better accommodate the occasional guest.  I would put this close to a plowed road for easy access and removal at the end of the season.  Then use the 4'x8' for further out on the lake.   2x6 skids would give a little more clearance for the bottom over snow and water on top of the ice, and wouldn't add much weight.  I put electrical conduit on the bottom of my skids for wear strips and tracking.  This is the floor before insulation, sheathing underneath, and conduit.

Does little elk one of those with multiple names I can't seem to find it on google maps. looking to get on some early ice tomorrow.

Went and checked little elk and Baxter 3-3.25 inches about 8 feet off shore. I did not go past that as I don’t want to fall in again. I need 5 inches to feel ok and it will be some time before gets there unless it gets cold soon. Let’s pray for no snow.
