Hey all, I’m new to the state (moved here from Ontario) and am in the Eagan area. I was sad to find that my boat is a little large for most lakes within a short drive (20-30 minutes), so I bought a kayak. The boat will get saved for trips up north.

Anyways, I was hoping to get some info on lakes/ rivers to try around Eagan. I don’t need specific spots, just lakes that hold fish. Was hoping for walleye/ crappie/ pike.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Welcome to MN! While i'm not familiar with the Eagan area I would suggest using the MN DNR recreation compass.

https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/maps/compass/index.html

some searching on the link above will not only provide you fish creel surveys, but lake maps and water clarity reports. I've spent countless hours cyber scouting lakes.

Good luck!

Welcome to FM @burgoyne.

BBs advice is great. There are quite a few here who fish the area.

I'm guessing someone will be along shortly who can help you out.

Have fun and be sure to get some oics to show us how it's going.

      Hey everyone,
Normally I don’t ask for help but I’ve been skunked last three summers on Side lake / Sturgeon Lake Chain for walleye.  I’ve spent most time on Big Sturgeon and Side for eyes but have come up short. I’m heading up for a long weekend and hoping to change my luck with some advice.  I’d appreciate anything as it’s been a grind... thanks !!

I have only fished for catfish on the chain I would like to try for bass. I would assume to use bright colors spinner baits, cranks, I wouldn't think it would do well for wacky worms etc. try the weed edges first? I don't want your spots just some ideas of how to get them Thanks.

I know it’s a little ways out but will be my first time going to lake vermilion August 7-10 out of Norwegian bay. Just wondering how the bass fishing is and will be around that time if anyone knows

Thanks for the information! Are you talking about south walnut by the dam and just north of there where the other river meets the lake? I’d assume it’s more of a spring spot when the waters a little higher and the walleyes are running?
    • Rick
It's a shallow lake with a channel that runs through it. You will be better off with a canoe or kayak to fish it.   The walleyes tend to congregate where the channel runs close to shore. You can also fish the holes in the blue earth river for them. A few flatties hang there too.

I was wondering if anyone has ever fished walnut or south walnut lake/ the blue earth river area? I see the dnr stocks walleye about every other year but I never hear of anyone fishing it
