Shadow raps or Husky jerks

Recommended Posts

Just wondering which one seems the best so far the Shadow rap seems more versatile The husky jerks to me seem a little hard to get to track straight. Thoughts?

I have a few husky jerks but honestly haven’t put them to serious use.  I’m into the Shadow Raps pretty good though.  They’ve been working really well on the fish that are deeper and won’t rise too far.

Rapala has had my number for quite a few years now; great baits when you use the right one at the right time.  X Raps, Rip Stops, Shadow Raps and the original floating Rapalas are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS in da boat.

I have decent luck using shadow raps for smallmouth in the spring as a jerk bait.  The husky jerk isn't technically a jerk bait.  I have one I think, haven't used it in years.

Have a tackle box of the shadow raps and they seem to work great!  Haven't used the husky jerks though...

Husky jerks are in my top 3,(husky jerks, thundersticks, super rogues)  for mid depth minnow baits.   X raps are good are well but a bit lower in the ranks.  Never had any significant issues with them running true.  Had more issues with rogues but man they catch fish.

Have a few shadow raps as well and they seem to work.

I'm usually targeting walleyes with them trolling or casting.  But have caught plenty of bass on them.

The shadow rap is a neutral buoyancy jerk bait designed to be casted with pauses.  Its not designed to be trolled.  The husky jerk can be trolled or casted although it will float if its just sitting there.

even if the shadow rap is not designed to be trolled, that is all I use them for, and they work well!  I usually use them for trolling over deep water in the summer for suspended walleyes.  Over the past 2-3 years they tend to be the most used rapalas I have in my boxes.

I have never forgiven rapala for discontinuing the muddler minnow colored flat rap! With that being said, baby bass and crayfish husky jerks are the absolute best trout lures that exists!

Shadow Raps actually have a slow sink to them when paused.  It’s the main thing they were created for.  Slow, almost horizontal sink.

X Raps have a slight float and Rip Stops are neutral plus they stop on a dime.  Great for fishing weed pockets.

Funny as every neutral bouncy bait irregardless of brand have some that perfectly neutral, some slowly sink and other slowly float.   Pretty convinced that variances in production and water temp play a roll.  Btw, they all catch fish on a given day.  😉

The shadow rap may not be design to be trolled.  Neither was the husky jerk when it first came out, ( yeah, I remember way back then).  Both worked well when trolled.  But again my shadow rap inventory is low compared to ther offerings.

      Hey everyone,
Normally I don’t ask for help but I’ve been skunked last three summers on Side lake / Sturgeon Lake Chain for walleye.  I’ve spent most time on Big Sturgeon and Side for eyes but have come up short. I’m heading up for a long weekend and hoping to change my luck with some advice.  I’d appreciate anything as it’s been a grind... thanks !!

I have only fished for catfish on the chain I would like to try for bass. I would assume to use bright colors spinner baits, cranks, I wouldn't think it would do well for wacky worms etc. try the weed edges first? I don't want your spots just some ideas of how to get them Thanks.
