Fishing Ottertail this past weekend we used my sons boat with a Humminbird Helix 9 Si/Di - Follow the Contour GPS. I also put my Vex SonarPhone one side mount which links to the Boating app. I recorded a track on the boating app with the Humminbird following a 16 ft. contour. As you can see on the Boating App track with Sonar video, ls off a fair distance from the Bird depth track. The boating app is a great tool for planning, searching fishing areas and fair on GPS contours. Both Humminbird and Boating use the Glonass GPS system so no differance between long/lat location.
Nice little unit that I just removed from a used boat recently bought. Everything seems to look and operate perfectly. Includes graph with mounting bracket, battery cable (fused) and transducer with mount. Buy new elsewhere for $169 or here used for $50. Can ship if you cover the cost.
Here is the mfg description:
The Lowrance Elite-4x Fishfinder, which includes an 83/200 broadband transducer, transmits sonar to track the presence and movement of targets beneath your boat. When you use this device, you’ll know when you’re in the right spot. This innovative fishing aid lets you enjoy your sport with a new level of confidence, even when you venture into new and unfamiliar waters. Its advanced electronics perform well in a wide variety of settings, including lakes, rivers, and marine coastlines. The 4.3-inch LED screen offers an impressive clarity in part because of the built-in noise rejection technology. This specially designed, high-resolution LED color display weighs 3.4 pounds and measures 3.8 by 6.6 by 2.2 inches, making it a compact finder that is perfect for those with kayaks or other small vessels. This design includes all of the features of the HDI Series but with the addition of special sonar technology. This model includes GPS and chart plotting capabilities. It also features a detailed U.S. map with high-definition mapping of more than 3,000 lakes, rivers, and coastal areas down to 1,000 feet. The addition of CHIRP sonar allows you to identify underwater targets more quickly. TrackBack technology allows you to go back over the sonar history to check lake structure and fish targets for future reference. The TrackBack feature allows you to save a waypoint, eliminating the need to circle back and retrace your path. This model also supports DownScan imaging. The unit runs on 12-volt DC power. The CHIRP technology operates between 83 kHz and 200 kHz. The DownScan imaging system works with a 455/800 kHz transducer. Dr. gave the OK for a weekend fishing next Friday, heading to Ottertail. Using Sons Tracker with Helix 9 SlDl + follow the Lakemaster map contour. Will not only improve ability to find fish along with tracking a specific contour automatically. I’ve always wanted to do a detailed contour compare between Navionics and Lakemaster. I use the Navionics Boating app linked to the Vex SonarPhone on one of two tablets. I can record tracking, depth, speed and how well the track follows the Lakemaster contour. My second tablet I’ll record FishSmart Lakemaster tracking contour which is the exact same Lakermaster map as on my son’s 9 SiDi. This past week I built a ¾” PC pipe side mount height adjustable transducer holder as we didn’t want to drill more holes in Sons boat. I put the Vex SonarPhone in a ammo box with battery or external power. Looking forward to some Fall Fishing.
Been a long time since I spent on a couple years on Big Fork River and then with kayaks.
Can someone give me advice on what stretches if any I can use my V14 Tracker
with 20 horse, though I can go with my trolling motor. Back injury prevents kayaking.
Looks like above Big Fork and a couple areas below Big Falls might work if there is
Thanks for any help. This is back up to 3 Canada trips that got cancelled.
So my family and another are looking for a place to spend a week next August. They aren’t the camping type yet, so we’re looking for something with a roof over our collective heads. The place we’ve been going the past few years doesn’t allow dogs and we just got a springer puppy and we’re not leaving him behind again. The fishing was also not kid-friendly, meaning I worked hard for a week to catch 4 9” walleye, 2 12” pike, 1 6” smallie and 4 rock bass..... I was forced to leave and drive twenty minutes to pop into a different spot and catch a fish dinner.
I’ve found plenty of vrbos in the Ely/Orr/Grand Marais area that would work, but I would love to support a local business up that way and stay at a resort, especially if it’s a place we can return to year after year. The two main drivers would the ability for kids to catch fish off the dock and a slightly relaxed attitude with well behaved dogs. There seem to be resorts that allow dogs but their exhaustive pet policies on the websites don’t make them sound incredibly welcoming. Obviously good fishing off the boat would be a bonus for the big kids......
Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
