Well some major changes happening with the Vikes! Cousins Signs a 66 mill extension, Diggs gets traded to buffalo, Harris gets franchise tag tossed on him, Rhodes and Joesoph released. .And as of lately Trey Waynes moves on to the bengals. The cousins signing I  realize  and kind of understand. He's maybe not a top tier QB but about as good as we can find at the moment plus they changed his no trade clause. All for the Diggs trade he didn't want to be here anyway. Great talent unreal WR  but kind of a cry baby locker room head case would of caused future troubles on the field. The good news is the draft picks we get 25, a 5th a 6th and a fourth in next years draft. Plenty of talent available for WR in this years draft. Harris is one of the top tier S in the league hopefully we can match any offers thrown at him.  Trey Waynes heading to Bengals is alright by me definitely not the CB I expected when we drafted him. Decent coverage guy with good tackling skills but most after a reception. See them adding one in free agency or for sure drafting high this year on one. Rhodes has lost a beat and was destroying us the whole season and I think we all saw this coming. Linval was a beast but injuries were slowing him down some this move shows me they have some up comers ready to fill That void they feel comfortable with.

Now the next big news coming out is Tom Brady will not be back with New England. He's made his decision I'm betting Tampa Bay Bucs have there new QB time will tell.

You make some great points. I am surprised Trey didn’t turn out better as Zimmer seemed to put a lot of time into him. As for all the changes on Vikes, could be a good thing as maybe they we’re too stale. Sometimes these changes can lead to a better team and dare I say SUPPERBOW....This just in, 2021 Supebowl canceled due to coronavirus.??

Sounds like my guess was Right Brady will be signing with Tampa 30 million a season. Contract details aren't out yet.. Be heck of a lot different seeing him a different uniform, but interesting to see how he performs in  different system and team.

Mabey we will find out that Brady just looked good cause of Belichick? You never know. As for Diggs I was rather happy to see him go I was long done with his drama and and I think coach zim was to and 4 draft picks sounds pretty good to me. Also I dont think we need any more weapons on offense with thieln ruddy irv smith and our soild run group all we need is a good offenseive line to protect cousins cause thats when he plays elite like some of his numbers showed last season and we also have taken a big drop in my opinion from our number 1 defense year when we went to the NFC championship so I would please me to see coach zim work his magic on some new draft picks for our defense.

Austin I'm Kind of wondering same thing on Brady? Was it him or Belichick my thought is both and the system put in place. My thought is there was some behind the scenes bickering on this subject between the two Belichick probably wanted Tom to move on so he could show he could win without him. Tom on other hand wants to try and show he was there reason for so many wins. Time will tell who was right. IMO it comes from three things A elite QB with a mastermind coach and a surrounding cast of some serious stud team players.

I think Brady is in a more difficult situation to prove he was the reason. Father time and a new offensive system can be tough on a QB.

Not so much with Belicheck. Same system with a new younger QB. He's done this before during Brady injuries and won!

What are your guys thoughts on Cousins and the extension and Diggs Trade for me I was willing to take a step back on offensive weapons so we could improve other things like the offensive line which would help cousins play better and we have all seen what he can do when he is at his best.

I hope they draft a QB. Let him learn and trade Cousins when new QB is ready to roll.

Ya not a bad idea there are a lot of good choices this year ever since last year I thought Cousins could do it after the numbers he put up if we played bad or at the very least decent next year though he wouldnt care much to see him go. Cause if you remeber back to when we got him we got him so he could bring this team to a super bowl and that has diffently not even come very close to happening in the past two years.

The extension frees up some cap space, as a lot of what's going on right now with this team. Trying to gain some ground back  they overpaid for cousins we all know that. Hopefully they do look at some QB in the draft as they will be stacked on draft picks. Rumors floating Browns are interested in Harris Vikes will b wanting a pretty good draft pick for him. Would hate to see him go but possibly we could find another ball Hawk in draft. Stefanski is very familiar with our players so wouldn't doubt it . They released G Josh Kline today so another vet lineman gone. Everson Griffen is shopping around but my guess is he signs here for less money once he gets afeel for the market. Looks to me a rebuilding year once again time will tell. A lot of holes to fill .

Yup they tagged harris I think would still hate to see him go but would get some good draft picks for him  got sendajo back so we have him back and harrison smith what we need right now is corner backs and its funny cause thats what coach zim is so known for but right now we are very short in that positon I am sure he has something up his sleeve though I have heard some rummor of vikings looking at Antoine Winfield jr would love to see the vikes get him

Another Solid move in Free Agency ? We just signed a interior beast for the DL. Mike Pierce Nose Tackle from Baltimore Ravens. Great inside run Stuffer 6 foot 345 lbs. Should plug up the inside quite well and very athletic. Nice to see a solid replacement for Linval. 3 years 27 million.

Yes call me crazy but one of my other passions is Football. Fishing is only one of my hobbies  LOL! And with all this crazy stuff going on in this world keeps me and a few buds happy free minded,  texting back and forth whats going on in free Agency. You can only watch so much CoVid19 news nice to find some normalcy every so often. ?

Agreed. May sound funny, but this signing helps our CB situation. The better our DLine, the less time our DBs have to stay in coverage.

With Linval's injuries and decline you saw Rhodes exposed and teams burning us with the long ball a bit too often....

That and the run. Pierce is a run stuffer.

Ya I was very happy with that move sounds like they traded Jayron Kearse to the lions not a terriable move to free up our cap space.

Cousins:   love him/hate him/?meh.  I don't think they had much of a choice...  You can't realistically think drafting a rookie quarterback with win us more games or get us deeper in playoffs (It worked for the seahawks/Russell Wilson, but I think anticipating that to work for us is little like going to the casino (if it were open) and expecting I'll win because I heard some dude went there and won a lot of money).

I'm thrilled they extended Cousins.  ...but It's like congratulating yourself for doing your taxes--there isn't a realistic alternative.  Cousins is overpaid, but frankly, let's look back--Bradford?  Keenum?  Bridgewater?  Ponder?  T.Jack?  (I won't mention the F guy, even though 2009 was a lot of fun.  He's a packer; there's something grating about our CLOSEST whiff of the SB since Morten Anderson and it required a packer castaway...)  The Vikings have been in a bit of Quarterback purgatory for ~10 years...

Wait...  Culpepper, George, Cunningham, Johnson, Moon, McMahon, Wilson, Kramer, Dills?...  Now that I think of it, it's more like 40 years.

Overpaying? Yes.  But overpaying for stability (at THE critical position) isn't a bad thing.  Cousins never struck me as "the problem" over the last 2 years...  (Our defense can't get a 3rd down stop anymore and Offensive line is, well, offensive...)

Diggs:  If I were to rate WR's in the league, I'd have had DeAndre Hopkins in the #1-3 range.  Diggs in the ~#4-10 range.  The Texans got a second rounder and a terrible RB contract for a better and non-disgruntled player.  We got basically top dollar for a player that was great, but wasn't committed to being here.  I'm happy.

I really like the Pierce signing.

I predict they'll be undefeated for the month of April!

(seriously, I don't see them winning an equivalent of 100 games next year because their home runs aren't likely sustainable... but, they should still be able to win the division)

S Jayron Kearse agrees to 1-year deal with Detroit Lions.

He made it clear he wasn’t coming back. This was not a trade.

CB Mackenzie Alexander was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals who also signed CB Trae Waynes.

Ouch the Alexander loss thins up the CB position. Although I heard he also wanted out bad.  Be a heavy draft on CB for us.

Rumor has it bunch of vet players are calling Tampa Bays office hoping to get picked up now that Brady signed with them. Hoping for a chance at a superbowl ring. Maybe far fetched but you never know. Sort of like the calls I'm sure every NBA team gets from whereever King James plays.

True! and with the Browns taking Sendajo he may stay on our team unless someone throws a high draft pick at us for him. I know Harris was  a target Browns were looking at for a bit.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
