I'm considering the possibility of getting another snowmobile again. My problem is storage. I have no space at home to store a sled and trailer. I was thinking about storing it somewhere near-ish the west end of the lake so that I can pick it up, tow it the short trip to The Landing, and then get to my place. Are there any options besides Vermilion Drive Storage on Hwy 24 just north of Cook? I reached out to them but want to make sure that I've checked out all of my options.

Isn't there a place next to Spring Bay resort, towards Moosebirds

I believe it's Head O Lakes Storage. Might be owned by the resort. That would be convenient, basically right across the road from the boat launch. I'll be driving up in the morning, I'll see if a phone number is posted.

Much appreciated Cigar Guy.

I'll also be interested to hear how the snow/ice conditions are in front of your place.

Will do. Last Sunday we were out in front of my place. Towards shore, powdery snow, about 8". The main snowmobile trail back into Black Bay is hard packed. Heading up in about an hour.

My cabin is right across from Head of the lakes storage, I called them once about snowmobile storage during the summer but he said he was full.   It will be interesting to see what you find out as I wonder if winter access would be easy or not?

I have used K & L Self Storage on Olsen Road down from the snowmobile trail and The Cresent.  I really liked the storage, the price was right and the unit I had was very clean.  That being said I got scared off when someone broke into some of the units and cut half of my lock off (but did not get in).  They have since added a light and I assume electricity, maybe have cameras now, not sure.  You can contact David Lindroth at [email protected] for info, real nice guy.    I originally thought cool, right next to the trail how convenient, well I never did take off on the trail, I always trailered them anyway :-).

I am currently at Vermilion Drive storage, the unit was a little smaller and a little more expensive but as far as I know its been fine.  They told me they were going to upgrade there camera system last year, not sure if they did or not.  I will be checking on the unit in the next few days, I'll let you know if any issue.   If your interested contact Gina Nukala [email protected], wonderful person and easy to work with.     Good Luck.

Thanks all. Yes, I did get a message from Big V. I'll contact them this week.

I'm glad that I asked since it sounds like there are a number of storage options.

I looked on Google Maps. That appears to be 77 Storage where 115 meets 77. It's a bit far away from the west end but I'll check it out as well.

I stored with Oak Narrows Storage and they were great- husband & wife team. Highly recommend.

I had rented a space for fall/winter storage from them and was supposed to have access by late October when I was winterizing the cabin. It turned out the unit I rented was't quite ready yet due to the previous person not vacating in time. I'm down in the cities and rather than make me come back up the next weekend (this was the last trip of the year), April had me bring the Ranger over while I was up there. They were extremely trustworthy and I felt comfortable leaving the keys with them and they parked the unit for me and locked it up the next week. Didn't have an issue at all and they were terrific to work with. I'd store with them again in the future.

That's good to know. Even though it's too far east for me (I'm a west ender), hopefully that will benefit someone else looking for storage near Vermilion. There are lots of good businesses on and around the lake that are worth supporting.

I drove by Head O Lakes Storage today and noticed that they don't plow the driveway to it.  Vermilion Drive Storage is wide open.

Yup - I called the guy at Head O Lakes. He said that he stores boats only in the winter and it's full, so he doesn't plow it out. I'm going to store at Vermilion Drive Storage. I'll be up tomorrow, so you'll probably see me going back and forth a few times!

Well, with the extra time we have on our hands, I decided to do a little spring cleaning. I have 3 Antler mounts I don't plan to use anymore, I switched to the boil method. I will sell these for $20 or b/o each. $50 takes all 3.

Found a tackle box up on Lake Osakis this morning. It wasn't in any of the community spots or I wouldn't of found it with amount of guys up there. LOL!  Wow you would think the Caughren point area was the only place to catch and sight fish. They should of been there a week and a half ago when we found them fresh 😲   Glad I have better spots where social or should I say solo distancing was happening 😉 If anyone lost one out there off the beaten path I found it feel free to PM me with the contents and Ill get it back to you somehow. If nobody claims it I'll donate it to a kid (and No not you Smurfey 😂) to get him a good start into ice fishing some good stuff in there!

Here is something we may not of touched yet .   What with the access being shut down on the Rainy river how do we know the opener won't be either shutdown or pushed back? Any rumors or first hand knowledge out there?    Another question what with the current shelter in place regs how will this effect all Minnesota's resorts and campgrounds?  Food for thought my friends.

Just a heads up to all out walking especially people with dogs. The ticks are out. I've been out shed hunting a lot and scouting for turkeys in the woods lately with my beloved dogs. Pulled off some deer ticks last few outings off both my labs. Time to introduce some preventive tick procedures now if venturing out. For my labs I use Frontline but some other options are Bravecto, Seresto, and at the least a flea tick color. For myself I use a product I swear by I always spray down with Permethrin before venturing out in the woods swamps or fields. I have had great results with this product. Hasn't let me down once!  Lyme disease is nothing to take light of as many people and dogs get infected every year.

Ok TW and thanks for the reply . . I tried earlier to send you a pm about that book but it was a no go , not sure why but when I tried to send it to you it wouldn’t go through ,  very well could have been my lack of knowledge on doing such  and who knows what I did with those buttons , because I seem to be good at pushing  other buttons on this site , haaaa  ,so I’ve been told , but F that .. It did bum me out though that it didn’t go through because it was quite lengthy and chock full of fun music trivia on my days with music and I had intentions on getting you my personal pics at a later time with many , many different music n geee tarrr pickers , above (j fogerty) (my opinion ) or at , or near the level of the All American Boy  . As to him and your pick of him I do understand as he is a guitar god . Maybe you could PM me with a play by play dummy set of instructions on how actually get u a Pm from me....  smiles , and thanks TW.

I realize everyone will be antsy by opener and understandable. But agree why travel to a different area to fish and risk being infected or infecting someone else. Don't blame certain locations not wanting people coming up by them. Lets all look at this as a perfect time to learn and fish some of the waters in our backyards. We all have good waters close to us why not take advantage of them. You might srike paydirt and will start fishing closer to your house more often I know I have!  I've never been a big fan of traveling to all the big waters on opener especially N. Water temps have always dictated where I open. 9 out 10 times I open in my back yard on chain or a surrounding small  lake or around the Atwater area. Lets all be considerate and see where this all goes before making our plans. Safety and Health first pleasure second should be our thought process right now.

My Health and Family!! As a Kidney cancer survivor I cherish everyday being able to walk this fine earth we live on there was a time I wasn't sure I was going to be able to.  The appreciation I have for the small things in life now are unimaginable. You soon learn the importance of the material things in your life and that is zilch. I will tell you from experience It doesn't matter how much money you have or if you own the biggest house, boat etc. The only thing that really matters is your Family,  your friends and the most important the Good Lord. My family has always been the most important thing in my life.  MY wife and my two daughters are the rocks  that get me through the tough times. And give me a purpose in life. Without them my purpose in life would be cut in half. My wife has always been a big supporter of my hobbies as she knows the love and passion I have for the great outdoors fishing and hunting and I love her for  that! My daughters  they are getting older 22 and 17 but still aren't to old   to hang out and reminisce with there old dad every once in a while. The three of them are my best 3 catches to date!!! 😀Lastly all my friends they are always there to share moments, laughs, good times and are always willing to open a ear and listen offer advise when something is bothering me thanks guys!

I'm grateful for my health.  Lotta people don't have it right now and a whole lot more are going to lose it.  My deceased grandfather once told me "if you don't have your health, you don't have much" before he died of cancer years ago.
    • Better Than Working!
Well stated Rick! I am grateful for Skype! My wife and I had a 3 hour virtual happy hour with are oldest daughter in Madison Wisc. getting her Phd, and our baby and son-in-law down in Iowa. It was great to be able to see them while we are going through this. Not the same as having them home but it was still pretty cool!

I’ve heard a few “Destination” communities have asked people not to come until the situation has settled down.  The reasoning being the interaction that might take place using services and depletion of some of their limited resources (think a rush on paper products not easily attainable in urban areas).  Some also feel bringing the virus and infecting small communities would be too much for local health care to handle.   I can’t argue any of that.   What most people that still plan to travel are stating, just like right here, staying self contained shouldn’t be an issue.     I can’t argue that either.   I work in a hospital so I see the latest information and many, many different opinions.  Some  of mine have changed from even a week ago.  We can all get through this with LOW risk as long as we think about what we’re doing and be considerate of others while doing it.  There is no such thing as NO risk.

Can we rockin' roll hoochie coo the walleye this spring? Fantastic pictures Tommy. Where were they taken?   I plan to fish opener unless it is illegal. Except for touching a gas pump somewhere, I can get in and out without floating a germ to anyone. A doctor buddy already said he was out, and asked that we sew face masks instead of play cards at night. It's an interesting time that we are in. Enjoy the strange ride and stay safe.

I'm grateful for the chance to spend time with my youngest. She was on her way to being a Senior at UMD. She has a year round job there and it's 3 hours away.   She was well on her way to living an independent life and my time with her limited to phone calls and the occasional visits.    I may never have had this opportunity again.   Now I have the privilege and joy of building a different kind of relationship with my adult baby. More as a friend than a Dad.
