As of today you can go from the 22 access to the meth hole and access the river down stream to the 22 bridge and down stream from there.

I was offered an airboat ride on Upper Red Lake by Donnie Hudec and @kelly-p to chase crappies, before anyone was chasing them there, when ice blew out 100 yds in late winter. I also remember Kelly te

I got out Saturday late afternoon. Fished Horseshoe as well, and travel by foot was pretty rough. I also parked at my cabin on the main point, and walked to my spot. Only saw maybe 3 other guys out on

Well i got out this morning to check.    Went out farther that I thought I would.    Here is what i found.    3" of solid ice then 1 inch of slush then 2" of frozen slush.    So when the cold snap hit

Going to do some shore fishing this weekend out there. Couple of good early ice bays are open. Crazy yesterday I saw a guy on Horseshoe ice fishing with waders on 😲 Waded out through quite of stretch of open water to crawl upon ice. Firstly ice is shot out there second waders does he realize what waders do when they fill up with water recipe for disaster to say the least.

Holy s#!+ Thats not too bright. Ice was looking gray and waterlogged for couple days now. And dang, maybe waders to get to the ice... but now wear them out there. I know two people who have drowned while fishing,  (open water)both were wearing waders😕 When they fill up it can be almst impossible to get back up

went out tonight and did well.    To my surprise I found 6" of solid ice everywhere on Shoe, so I took my heavier wheeler out.

It's helpful to get ice safety tips from folks. And real time Ice reports from folks as well.

Keep up the tips and reports. 👍👍

Though I agree anyone should be wary of just one person’s observations when heading onto ice, using crowd sourced info makes me feel a bit more confident. Be safe out there!

Exactly, everyone needs to understand to check for themselves.  I mean, we're talking about fishermen here, somehow a 19" walleye can turn into a 25" walleye by the end of the night.  We're not known for being the most accurate with the tape measure.

Good to hear on the ice.  I plan to get out next week.  It'll be fun to wet a line.

Unfortunately it wasn’t me. Between Christmas and plowing 3 times in 6 days fishing has forcibly taken the back burner. Hope whoever it was out there got his kids into some fish though

Finally managed to get up to long today. Ran out with the wheeler to check ice before bringing down the new 8’ IC and wheeler went into limp mode and only ran on one cylinder half way back from the island....good thing the kids wanted to stay with grandma haha. Had to winch it into the truck. Oh well always next time. I did find 10” in most places while checking ice.

Took a drive around the chain this afternoon. Being a Monday I didn't expect much activity but was surprised. About 8 vehicles parked on shore. There were 2 trucks parked by that Creek that goes between horseshoe and long and 2 parked in the narrow arrow between the winter access and meth hole. After what Don posted yesterday I can't believe the kahunas these people got.

Hey icehawk.... There must of been a 100 turkeys out behind Tessmers meats. Your not doing a very good job of population control.😊

Don that was what I was seeing btwn the shoe and Long. 1 week ago on Long there was maybe 8-10 in. Thurs/Sat on shoe i had 14-16 in. Leavin the lake on Sat saw someones tipup with no one around. I believe across the lake from you(west)

Was shocked to see someone in a pickup head back to the left behind the island out from the winter access on Thurs.

After the last 2 weeks i can really see myself retired. Thanks to ZAP in Paynesville i was able to get out to my spots as they fixed my wheeler that hadnt run in over 6yrs.

I have been making trips for the past 16 years, but this last one was our worst ever.  Friend and I were up Thursday to Saturday. We started about 6 miles out on Thursday in 30fow. graphed very few fish, and the ones we did would not bite, we did manage to get one eye 26 1/2 inches and one keeper. So Friday we moved out past 7 miles on the outskirts of most others.  Luck did not change, stay pretty much the same as Thursday, did get one 20 inch eye. There were alot of houses but could not tell if anyone was catching anything. watch a couple of trucks try to cross over a pressure ridge. first one got hung up. the second one took a running start, look like both the truck and house caught air. turned out to be the funniest part of trip. anyone fair any better this past few days?

On the south end...  Good numbers of walleyes and saugers are being caught this week, but a lot of sorting as lots of small fish in the system  Most ice fishing is taking place between 23 - 31'.  Jigging one line on one line and using a bobber with a live minnow on the other is the goto strategy.  Electronics are helpful to show suspended fish coming through such as walleyes and tullibees.  Popular colors... gold, glow red, glow white, pink and orange.  Lures with a red light stick and rattle baits are also effective.  Some big walleyes over 28 inches caught this week. Walleyes, saugers, jumbo perch, big pike, tullibees, eelpout and even an occasional crappie being caught on Big Traverse Bay.
On the Rainy River...   Ice fishing on areas of the river continues to produce some walleyes mornings and evenings. Ice conditions vary greatly on the river as there is moving water.  Work through a resort for safety.
Up at the NW Angle...  With the border closure, there are four ways to travel to the NW Angle without crossing the border.  1.  NW Angle Guest Ice Road (opening end of week).  2.  Snowmobile trails across the lake are open.  3.  Lake of the Woods Passenger Service (bombardier).  4.  Lake Country Air.
Angle ice fishing continues to be very good with numbers of walleyes being caught.  Walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch with an occasional pike, eelpout, or tullibee in the mix this week.  Ice fishing taking place in 20-26'.  Communicate with your favorite NW Angle resort for specifics.

I bought a cabin on hand lake this year, and was woundering if there are any ice fishing reports for the area? I noticed that there are not any reports for this area for a long time, maybe thats a good sign, as its all secret. I was located in palisade, and just moved here this year, looking for general info, nothing specific.
I can say the ice seems good, if you stay away from the slush.

Curious to hear what others are using or have had success when carrying their ice auger on a snowmobile. Currently my wheeler is in for a rebuild so time to set up the snowgo. As of now my best thought is a digger mounted on the front bumper to give  the auger a smoother ride.

Leech Lake.  I am wondering what to expect.  I think I might go out on Boy bay using the public landing on Sugar Point.  First are there any safety concerns, ice conditions to worry about, Landing safe?  Second what can I expect for fish? Kind of looking for some nice panfish during the day and a stray walleye or two towards evening

On the south end...  A great week of walleye and sauger action on Lake of the Woods.  Most ice fishing is taking place between 23 - 28'.  Jigging one line and using a bobber with a live minnow on the other is the go to strategy.  Popular colors this week... gold, glow, glow red, pink and orange.  A lot of small fish to sort through to find keepers.  Some big walleyes from 28 - 32 inches caught this week.  A mix of walleyes and saugers with jumbo perch, big pike, tullibees and eelpout being caught as a rule.
On the Rainy River...   Ice fishing on the river continues to be good overall.  Mornings and evenings are producing the best walleye action. Ice conditions vary greatly on the river as there is moving water.  Work through a resort for safety.

Angle ice fishing has been excellent with good numbers of walleyes being caught.  Walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch with an occasional pike, eelpout, or tullibee is what anglers will see.  Most fishing taking place in 20-26'.  Communicate with your favorite NW Angle resort for specifics.

I'm looking for ice thickness reports on crystal lake in Burnsville! I am not able to walk out on the lake, I'll need to drive out with my ATV or truck, therefore I'll need some good ice before I'm able to fish!

On the south end...  Ice fishing is in full swing.  Resorts have fish houses out and good numbers of walleyes and saugers being caught.  Cold fronts can slow the bite some but be patient and work lures.  Most ice fishing is taking place between 23 - 27'.  One the jigging line, spoons with a minnow head or tail effective for jigging line.  Gold spoons with a red glow stick has been effective.  Other colors, gold, glow, glow red, pink.  On the deadstick, a glow jig or plain hook with a live minnow.  A mix of walleyes and saugers with some jumbo perch, big pike and eelpout this week.
On the Rainy River...   Ice fishing on the river mainly by locals has been good overall.  Mornings and evenings have produced the best walleye action. Ice conditions vary greatly, work through a resort for safety.
Up at the NW Angle...  With the border closure, NW Angle Resorts and Community have pulled together and will have a guest ice road across the lake up to the Angle so anglers can drive to resorts.  The NW Angle Guest Ice Road will begin when ice conditions allow, most likely early January.  The snowmobile trail is staked soon across the lake.  Another option, North Country Air is flying anglers to the Angle.  Contact your favorite NW Angle resort for details.
Ice fishing reports continue to be excellent.  A mix of walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Great bite continues with the morning - evening in 15-19' of water.  Afternoons, 22-26' have been best.  Communicate with your favorite NW Angle resort for specifics and safety.

I remember my father wearing the shock vest for his afib just in case things went haywire. After a year of it he got to stop but still had to swallow the rat poison daily. I suppose that I'll be there at some point. Maybe I need to keep running from the sauna to the snowpile to keep my ticker in shape.   Stay strong.

You’re exactly right.  They have their maximum profits dialed in and to heck with incidental late demand when it comes to that stuff.  This year has amplified that process.  You couldn’t find any popular fishing line in stock in the Baxter store past opener.  It wasn’t even good BY opener.
    • Wanderer
Naw, I didn’t.  There wasn’t really much for hanging out inside.  Rick was coaching everyone up the access today though.  Had to tow some according to reports.  We made it up fine. LOTS of small walleyes to go around but several people iced 20” plus fish.  I lost one heavy fish at 5:30 this morning - pulled too hard after setting the hook; the line stretched and the fish didn’t move much.  Pike showed up but most went back due to the slot.  Perch were on the light side for keepers but kept things going.  Most action was in 20-22 fow either on top of a bar or the top of the breaks.   I went out to 32 fow and marked some tullibees but they wouldn’t chase.  Caught some more perch but had to keep them all due to the barotrauma.   Burnt orange was our best jig or hook color.   Caught fish on crappie jigs and minnows, chubs and one on a sucker.

Have noticed that since the big wigs own Fleet now. They do "seasonal buys" on items and once its sold out there is no resupplying until next season. They start combining shelving and moving in the summer boating stuff.

12 inches and it’s game on for most.  We do have great ice this year for what is there.  Not saying it’s all good - everyone is taking their chances with it!     I’m reasonably cautious and do my own ice checks but have been on less ice than I would’ve believed only a few years ago.  Slow and easy...   We were on Winnie over the weekend with a FB group my wife has been a member of, Hard Water Kampers (HWK).  153 wheelhouses checked into the event.  Some 1 tons with plows and giant tandem axle houses down to more normal fare in a reserved area on the lake out of Highbanks Resort.  17-18 inches of ice and only a few sites showed any water problems.  Almost everyone obeyed the 10 mph speed limit to a T.  I did experience the wave we can cause though at the shore staging area with a couple big trucks coming off a little fast.  Pretty obvious how the ice can blow up by someone and then it be weak for another following behind later.   I’ll have to say I was impressed with how the organizers handled their event with the support of Highbanks.
