best months in general

i heard very good reports on LOW earlier this year. presently, sounds "reel" slow. those of you with years of low experience, have you seen a "pattern" related to time of year affecting the bite or is it like most lakes. (great early, slow midwinter, better later towards last ice, with sporadic bites in between with "good" weather condition, moon phases, etc.) any help is appreciated in advance. trying to plan a trip for either mid-late feb, or waiting til mid-march to april.

Goose,<P>Lake of the Woods patterns out to some degree<BR>just like all lakes. The thing that makes it<BR>great is the fact that with a change of tactics and strategy you can catch fish all<BR>year.<P>That said, there will be a bad day here and<BR>there but there isnt a "month long stretch<BR>when fishings is bad all over". You may need<BR>to fish the rocks or learn how to pull a <BR>crankbait in deep water or travel around the<BR>lake a little bit but there are always fish<BR>going somewhere and somehow.<P>The close in shoreline bite is best in May <BR>and June and then again in October and November until ice up. The "easy"bite <BR>continues from first ice to mid January and<BR>the fish slip out into deeper water<BR>and the resort houses follow them out.<P>The Late ice in March and April really can<BR>be one of the best times and it seems the<BR>fish bite good all over. Reefs, shoreline<BR>and the deep water can all produce big time<BR>late in the ice season.<P>The only real problem is where to go. If you<BR>fish Pine Island and it stinks you will hear<BR>how they "murdered em" on the reefs. For my money late march and early april rule. Bring your atv,s-glasses,s-block,and your best hat!! and maybe a kite (;<BR>The worst day on lotw is still better than most any good day of fishing at home though !<P>enjoy !
