Old Mill Stream

Anyone been out to old mill stream? The DNR instructions are rather vague:

“The other public area is up the hill from the village center on County Highway 4 (Broadway Street) at the site of the former Marine Minnow Farm, now part of William O’Brien Park. Anglers must park just off County 4 and walk north and east along the old driveway to reach the stream.”

Looks like it should be some of the better trout fishing in the east metro.

Thanks for any info!

Also another stream I am interested in is Valley Creek, it seems like mostly private properties besides right off the roads, but can you hike the waterbed legally? I know there is a healthy trout population there.

Old mill stream is literally only about 2 ft wide and less than a foot deep in most places. It’s also super weedy. The brush and trees along the stream make it impossible to cast. Really the only option you have is to soak a worm in any likely spots. There’s only a couple hundred feet of shoreline that’s public property.

As far as valley brook goes. It’s entirely surrounded by private property. Technically, you can legally access it at bridge crossings. But the harassment you get from locals isn’t worth it.

Do do yourself a favor and buy a WI license and trout stamp. Pierce County alone has hundreds of miles of public easements on several trout streams that are WAY better fishing than most, if not all of Minnesota’s trout streams!
