Best Sleeper House Rental Within 4 Hrs Of Twin Cities

Recommended Posts

Getanet

I'm in charge of finding a sleeper house to rent for trip for 4 guys this winter. We'd like to stay within a 4-hour drive of Twin Cities. We rented a house on Leech last winter and the house had a TV w/dish, which was awesome because not only could we hook an underwater camera up to the TV, but we were able to watch both the NFC and AFC championship games on Sunday (we all have younger kids, so being able to watch a full day of football with plenty of food and beer and no interruptions was amazing).

I'm not opposed to going to Leech again, but we didn't catch much, so I'm looking for other options.  Does anyone have a favorite rental I should add to my listl?

I know it's early, but no replies! I guess you guys are keeping all the best rentals a secret😀....I did quite a bit of research on my own, so if anyone is interested shoot me a PM and I can let you know some of the places I found.

There are a lot of options on Mille Lacs, Appledorns is nice and have TV but the one I rented did not have dish just a DVD.  We did catch some walleye but not the amount you would catch hole hoping in portables.  Those accommodations (Dish TV) is not super common but in your situation I understand wanting to have it.  I would look into rentals on Big Stone on the western MN border, I know they have them but do not know of the options but obviously less fishing pressure than Mille Lacs, Leech, or Red

Red Lake or Lake of the Woods is where you want to go if you want to consistently catch fish through the ice in an overnight sleeper.  Otherwise you'll be just stuck there watching football and drinking beer unless you are willing to move consistently.

Thanks for the input guys. I looked into all the lakes mentioned above, with the exception of Big Stone (need to add that to my list for next year).  I wound up not too far from Lake Osakis.  Found a guy that rents nice houses on Lake Miltona. None of us have fished the Alex area before, so we'll see how it goes.

And Gimruis, you make it sound like being stuck drinking beer and watching football is a bad thing!

Haha.  Definitely not a bad thing but you could just as easily do that part at home instead.

My dad and brother smashed the walleyes yesterday on Tom Lake they caught 27 walleyes and kept their limit of 16-18 inchers. No photos from them yet

Yah, sometimes it’s hard to get info about city fishing when most of us try to get AWAY from the city! 😄   I read your post a few days ago and only thought of the river, Minnehaha Creek (both already mentioned) or the City Chain of Lakes. I used to trailer my bass boat to Calhoun or Bde Maka Ska and trolling motor the whole lake and sometimes into Lake of the Isles.  We always picked up nice bass on the weed lines and an occasional muskie.  My best bass was a 6-4 but we always caught at least one 5 lbs along with multiple 3’s and 4’s.  I never spent enough time on Harriet to figure it out.   The River can be fished in sections.  Just pick one.  Some of the harbor and island areas were always good for white bass and smallies.  Look for rip rap.  My favorite bait was a small bomber model A with clear sides and chrome middle to emulate the shad.  Occasionally I’d tie into some channel cats or even a stout flathead.

Although I appreciate the replies and any effort because I know it's good faith, they're not of much use. As originally posted, this is really looking to withIN Minneapolis / St Paul.
