Slip bobber and a leech, if the water is warm enough.  If not, a minnow of some kind.  The first weekend they allow night fishing too so I try to get out there with a lighted glow bobber.

My parents do a lot of fishing out there all season.  They lindy rig, pull spinners, and use lead core after the 4th of July.

Nice! Sounds like a ton of fun! Love lighted bobber fishing.  We use shallow running crank baits, cast and trolled when water temps get to 55° or so. Temps below that a jig and a minnow, cast or trolled, seems to be best.  Warmer water and weeds are what we target.

Unfortunately there is a season-long night ban unless you target muskies so the lighted glow bobber thing is only a reality for 1.5 nights on opening weekend.  Its been like that for a few years now to cut down on the harvest.  My boat isn't really equipped to troll with crankbaits but yes that can be effective too.

We do! At least 2 weekends a summer we do nothing but musky fishing. Was out night trolling twice. No fish caught overnight though.  2 in 1 day in mid june last year. My wife caught em both!

good tips guys. indeed a good idea to bring some meat along. I find myself using it less and less but good to have in the pocket.

I rarely use live bait anymore unless I'm gonna use 2 rods.  Plastics, gulp,  tied tungsten flies, jigging raps,  rippin raps, darters... the list goes on.  There has been a few times though that a minnow head on a spoon out produced anything I had.  Good thing I had a buddy who borrowed me a few. 😉
