Must be a self starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills – AND must enjoy talking hunting and fishing of course….

Thanks, Leech. IT is working on getting it updated. Believe it or not, we have not had a job opening since April 2016 (Until yesterday). It's like people enjoy getting paid to talk hunting and fishing or something. 😉

On the last day to target predator species during this Ice Fishing season I went out on Lake Vermilion. I setup for the morning on a break where I usually catch Walleye's with a few Yellow Perch mixed in but on this outing I caught mainly Jumbo Perch! Plus one bonus fish that took me over 4 minutes to get up the hole...

In preparation for mt first trip to the Boundary Waters, I decided we might need a good, lightweight fish cradle to land the giant pike we're so sure to catch there. I shopped around and decided I could make one as good or better than what was available. After buying the materials needed, I ended up with enough to make more of them than my group needed. I'd like to trade for hook remover, jaw spreader, lure packs, or most anything useful to some rookie pike fishermen. I'll consider just about anything.

I discovered just recently that the May Township Board in Washington County MN is holding a public hearing on whether or not to block access to a public body of water from a public right a way. Stillwater is the county seat of Washington County. Specifically they want to stop you, hunters or fisherman from using Carnelian Creek to access Turtle Lake.  This was brought to the attention of the May Township Board by the Carnelian-Marine St Croix Watershed District. When I talked with Jim Shaver, Administrator of the Watershed district,  he said that the property owners that surround this creek and lake contacted him about hunting activity and potential trespassing on private property. The owners are also concerned about their animals that they have and dog trials that they hold on the property.
Jim Shaver also told me that the Watershed District is concerned that if someone got hurt using that waterway, that the Watershed District would be liable because the Watershed District improved the creek so that the water would drain from Big Marine Lake through this creek, eventually ending up at the St. Croix River. I do not believe that the Watershed District has any liability.
Jim Shaver said they then went to the Township Board with their concerns and the town board drafted an ordinance blocking access from a public right a way to a public water way.
I spoke with Bill Voedisch who is the May Township Chairman and he told me basically the same thing plus that the Watershed District is concerned about damage to a structure that is in the creek.
The public water is Carnelian Creek that flows out of Big Marine Lake into Turtle Lake. The location would be in May Township of Washington County. This is on 155th Street North just east of Manning Ave North. Manning Ave North runs north of Hwy 36. 155th Street is approximate 5 1/2 miles north of Hwy 36.
So, May Township is having a public hearing on March 1st at 7 PM at town hall, 13939 Norell Avenue North, Stillwater MN. If you can make the meeting and make your thoughts known that would be great. I can not be there as I will be out of town but the Township Supervisor told me that I could submit a letter expressing my concerns and it will be include. So if you can be there come, if you can't, you can submit a letter by email.  Below is the contact info for the Chairman and the other two Supervisors.
May Township Board Chairman, Bill Voedisch-Chair, 651-433-5976, [email protected]
      John Pazlar-Supervisor, 651-433-5013, [email protected]
      John Adams-Supervisor, 651-430-8134, [email protected]

Here is the contact info for the Administrator of the Carnelian-Marine-St. Croix Watershed District and website.

      Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if there are any fish in the East Branch of Raven Stream? It's in the town of St Benedict, just north of New Prague? I'm thinking of buying a bit of land that happens to have this stream running through it, but I would only want it if there fish in the stream. I'm not too proud, it doesn't need trout in it, panfish and bullheads would suit me just fine. :)
Anybody familiar with this stretch of water?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Im going to cenaiko lake tomorrow morning. Ive been there once before but got there mid day so didn't have the following issue.

Is there a way to get there before 6am when the coon rapids dam park opens?
im guessing before the  park opens there is a gate at the enterance?
I want to get there around 430-5 so I don't miss the prime fishing time, being it opens at 6 that's a good amount of prime time wasted.

So my question, has anyone gone there (or the coon rapids dam park itself) before it opens at 6?
if so, how do u get in? I don't want to have to walk from the side streets all the way to the lake.
or is there a place to park closer to the lake outside the park area?

EDIT: It is okay to fish the lake before the park opens, there is a sign at the lake saying fishing is 1 hour before sunup until 11pm.

Im wanting to go and fish the missisippi river by my place, there is a little inlet with some down trees, a drop off  and a little bridge that goes over the inlet.
Its off of east river road at the end of 79th.  I believe its called riverview heights park.
My questions is, has anyone gone fishing there? I see people there quite often and have chatted with them a little bit, but haven't gotten much out of them.
It looks promising for some largemouth and catfish.
if you have fished there what works good? and are they biting now?
I will be there at about 5 am tomorrow morning.

      Hey guys and gals!
I was wondering what kind of fish is this? I was thinking they were redhorse suckers or something but I am not 100% sure! I have been catching them out of the Mississippi and don't know if they are invasive or what the heck they are because they smell god awful!
      Thanks!

That is a fair opinion. My opinion is that as long as the safe harvest level is not exceeded, I really don't care if it takes them 1 day, 6 months, or a whole year, or if they are using hook and line, nets, or dynamite. That is the tribes choice to make.   Some people go home to a super model every night; I do not. Some people have billions of dollars; I do not. Some people can net walleye on Red Lake; I can not. Life is not and never will be fair.

Thanks Chill, I really enjoy reading your posts.  On a quick update for me, I went out for the first time of the year on Nov. 23rd on a small lake by DL.  Had around 5" of ice and had to drill about 40 holes before we found the crappies and gills.  They were not super aggressive, but we were able to land one limit of keeper size crappies and also some nice gills.  Went out for the second time on Dec. 7th by Lake Park.  With the warm weather, still only found about 5" of good ice and 3" of slush on time.  Fishing was much slower and only caught a few perch.  Thank goodness for the Muck Arctic Armor boots for keeping the feed dry and warm in that slush!!

Seriously???   You dont even know that the Red Lakes are not, and never were, a part of the 1837 treaty or part of the Ceded territory, yet you spout off here as if its fact? Take that carp back to the Mille Lacs forum where it belongs.    If you want a little FACT finding mission, take a look for the maps of the 1837 and 1854 ceded territories.  Not even close to Red Lakes. I'll save ya the difficult google search, heres the maps for both https://data.glifwc.org/ceded/ So stop biatching about a system that is working on the Red Lakes.  Its been the best walleye lake in MN basically since it reopened in 2006.  And yes, I have fished it every year since then, how about you????   Tried to see if I could find even one fishing report from you on this forum........ crickets.

We all have an interest in maintaining the lake. I thank god we have this gem to fish and am grateful it's producing again. I'm grateful to all those who worked on the recovery for all of us to enjoy and/or gain economic benefit from.   If people like you came in to the place you made your livelihood (subsistence) and told you how to produce your goods or services, how well would you listen?   A fish meal is a fish meal no matter how it was gathered.   Let's find a positive way to co-exist with each other. The bitterness is not becoming nor is it productive.
    • gimruis
I think they should just stop using nets.  If they want fish, they should have to use fish and line like everyone else.  Just my personal opinion.
    • gimruis

Start eating more Smallmouth they are not bad had them in Canada once put side by side with walleye couldn't hardly tell the difference. I know the bass guys are probably going to rip me for saying that but what the heck why not eat em.😀

I dont know.  In my experience at mille lacs, which was a few years back, i saw no shortage of tiny perch and crayfish and I know there is also tulibee in there
    • walros
I like to think that there are too many predator fish (walleye, northern, musky and small mouth bass) for the available forage base to sustain. You can't have everything at once yet here the DNR is trying to make the lake into everyone's dream lake. One of the predator fish has been stocked (Musky) and one protected (small mouth bass)  allowing the natural balance to tilt away from walleyes. This happened because of intense political lobbying efforts of the groups that support these types of fishing activities.

Guys, please, recommend me a sleeping bag for two that would be warm and thick anought to lie even on snow. I am going to purchase TETON Mammoth from this list https://outdoorsy.org/best-double-sleeping-bag, but if you have something that you can rely on, please, let me know. Do not want to risk it with purchasing something unknown
