hi guys, 3 of us are coming up to LOW on sunday for our first time. we will be staying at sportsmans lodge and doing the fishing package. ive seen tv shows on LOW with people just wearing jeans and a flannel shirt inside the shack and hanging up their coat. my question is what kind of clothing do we need to bring. should we look at it as our normal icefishing day, with longies, winter parkas, and the ice kings, or can we dress a little lighter since we will be in the shack all day?? thanks in advance for your replies.

Last weekend we wore longies, wool wind stopper over that, refrigawear bibs and coat over that. Have good choppers with liners - my bro. got frozen hands in gloves - face mask that is wind proof is needed.
We used snowmos thought and did our own thing. Guys piling out of Bombadiers were wearing thin stuff.
Me, I dress for the coldest and we got it last weekend.

You will be getting into a heated Bomber, then into a heated house. Wear a good jacket for the ride and wear normal clothes for the fishing. I wear a lighter boot, a long sleeve shirt and jeans. Unless it is -40 when your up there this is all you will need.

thanks guys, one other question. is it best to get your license ahead of time? do they sell them at the resort?

Sportsmans should be able to hook you up. If not you're only about a half mile from Log cabin Baitshop and Steve can set you up there.
fiskyknut

Always wear or at least bring clothes that match the elements. LOW is a very unforgiving place and if you are not prepared, you will pay for it! Temps and wind can make it deadly cold. ALWAYS be prepared, you never know what might happen!

jlm said it right. There are those rare incidences where you might run out of propane or a blinding snow storm might roll in and the Bombers might not find you or they might accidentally forget you. It would be a minor porblem if you were prepared, but a major one if you weren't. it is always bette to be safe than sorry. Warm clothes in layers can alwasy be removed when necessary.

We got stuck on an ice heave a few years back and were stranded in the Bomber for an hour (-20 degrees). Started to get a little cold when the heat wimped out in the older vehicle. It can be unforgiving out there if an accident happens. Always can hang up bibs and jackets in the fish house.
