$500 Locator Soft Water And Ice

I do a fly in every year and a little ice fishing.  May be fishing out of my 14 footer on small lakes too.  Looking for a color graph with flasher and gps as well.   Any advice/experience with a unit in the $500 neighborhood?

I would suggest you look at the Humminbird Helix 5.  I've been using it for the past couple of years for both ice and open water.  Just swap between my boat and a blue Genz box as the season changes.  Compact and responsive and the ice mode has been fantastic.

All three brands, Lowrance, Bird, Garmin, make units you might be happy with.    Some come with maps included.  Good sales at various times, especially fall and spring.   

 

If they don't have the simulated flasher circle display, they all have the bar on the right side that shows the real time return.
