Try pine lake off of McFarland. Easy to get to and good size eyes. You’d need a portable fish finder though. Interesting lake for eyes. Basswood is awesome too but it’s a haul.

Questions.

Would you like something on a motor route.

Stick to or fish smaller lakes.

Travel distance.

How many days.

I always hear about Basswood and Sag, but I was hoping for smaller lakes/no motor. Thanks for the responses!

Anyone know much about Gabbro and Bald Eagle S/SE of Ely?

I fish, therefore I lie

Consider the lakes in the Whitefish, Timber, Frear, Elbow loop NE of Finland.  LOTS of walleye and very few fishermen this time of year.

I've entered at Brule lake many times.   The Cones are an easy one to get into or South Temperance.     You might find that is as far as you need to travel for walleyes.  If your wanting to turn it into a canoe trip keep heading North and to Horseshoe, Gaskin, and Caribou.

If you're considering Caribou or Horseshoe, be sure to spend time on Swamp Lake (one portage south from Poplar lake). There aren't any campsites, but a high walleye population make it a favorite (shhhhhh! Sorry guys) among the locals.  Work around the islands and reefs this time of year and you shouldn't be disappointed.

It is definitely getting down to the wire. I want to try and get out one more time if possible! I love ice fishing, but the fall bite has been hot.

Be careful on public land traps tend to disappear. Don’t set the traps in the open and make another path to check your traps. With duck season going on use traps that will not hold dogs. I like setting banks with mink attractor or 220’s set in rat runs.

I am looking to start a line this year since I travel 50 miles o e way for work. Looking for any advice and tips. I have some state land I would like to set on. Mostly mink and rats I believe are my targets. Thanks in advance

Good pics have been hard to come by.  But...   Yes, these are water pics mainly but we’ve hunted fields too. The field hunting has been tough for us with the size of crew we have and the age mix.  Good times; good people.   Besides, a guy that likes divers needs a little water tossed in.  I saw my bucket list can but wouldn’t water swat him to claim him.  Didn’t get a chance at him on the wing.
